Hello Everyone

My name is Patrick and I am part of the team here at GAP Diagnostic. Some of you might already know us and our products but since it is my first post here, I will do a brief description. We provide diagnostic solutions for Land Rover enthusiasts and professionals alike. We basically have two product categories, the EASControl, which is a lowering and raising tool with basic suspension diagnostic capabilities and the IIDTool, a complete diagnostic system (Note: all EASControl functionalities are included in the IIDTool).

We offer three versions of the IIDTool (Integrated Interface Diagnostic Tool). The regular IIDTool, the IIDTool BT and Pro. The regular IIDTool uses the cruise control buttons and instrument cluster screen to interact with the user (integrated interface) while the BT and Pro are used in conjunction with a mobile device (App). More details on each interface, vehicle coverage and more can be found on the IIDTool webpage:

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

And the user manual:

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/support/documents/IIDTool/

A few weeks ago, we've released a new App, version 2.9, for Apple devices and also released a new special firmware available for beta testers only at the current time. Here's a resume of the new additions when using both the new App and firmware or using the new App only with an older firmware.

Top Bar (new and old firmwares): A new bar was added which shows the current connection and ignition status as well as battery voltage.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/796.jpg

Faults function (new and old firmwares): Advanced Read
-Status bit flags default selection can be saved for future use
-Status bit flags are visible as icons on top of fault descriptors
-Status bits can be included in the exported emails

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/797.jpg

Height Adjust (new firmware only): A new and more intuitive screen to adjust your suspension height with default and saved settings. Contrary to our previous method, height changes are relative to the default height and not the current standard height.

0 -> 25: current height, 0 mm, or default in this example is shown on the left while the selected height setting (My offroad height in this example) is shown right, + 25 mm

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/798.jpg

20 -> -10: current height, +20 mm relative to the normal height (0 mm), shown on the left while the selected height setting (Motorway in this example) is shown right, -10 mm relative to the normal height (0 mm).

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/799.jpg

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/800.jpg

Height Control (new firmware only): This function allows you to remotely control your current height (Access, Normal, Offroad) and lower both axles to the bumpstops.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/801.jpg

Suspension Calibration (new firmware only):
-New manual calibration layout
-New guided calibration function. This unique method eliminates the need for calculations, even ground and requires only one iteration. The whole process takes 5 minutes.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/802.jpg

Guided calibration instructions:
-The first corner to be calibrated is the front left corner (1).
-Place your measuring tape as instructed and use the up and down arrows (2) to reach the required height (3).
-Once completed, click on Send (4). The next corner to be calibrated will now be high-lighted.
-Repeat the previous steps for all corners.

New Suspension Test Valve function layout (new firmware only)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/803.jpg

Live values:
-All live values (PIDs) are now available for all supported vehicles (L322: except for older BMW type ECUs, new firmware only)
-Trigger function which allows custom audible or vibration alarm and automatic start/stop logging of live values. (new and old firmwares, already on Android)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/804.jpg

Trigger example:
-The live value increases and passes the Start target of 20 % (first red dotted line)
-Recording begins and the previous data is kept (2 seconds, as set)
-The Stop condition is met at around 6.5 seconds, hence the trigger indicator (red dotted lines)
-Recording continues for 4 seconds as set
-Enabling the Buzzer will generate a sound when the condition is met. Perfect when monitoring live data. Can be used without using the automatic recordings feature.

-Favourite Fast Add feature which allows adding live values to favourite list quicker. (new and old firmwares)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/805.jpg

Click on the star when viewing an ECU live values

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/806.jpg

1- Click here to create a new list
2- Current favourite lists are shown here
3- Click on the star to add the live value to this favourite list

-Layout improvements (new and old firmwares)
-Selection of which live values to be exported and viewed (logs). (new and old firmwares)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/807.jpg

Car Configuration File (new and old firmwares):

-Complete CCF list can be edited upon request.
-Favourite Fast Add feature which allows adding configurations to favourite lists quicker.

ECU Info (new firmware only): This new layout is the basis for what will be the next step reflashing wise. It now shows which ECUs are up to date and those for which a newer version is available. If you are testing this function, please send us the results using the send e-mail button for our records. This will help us validate the automatic file selection algorithm.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/808.jpg

An historic of each ECU Info scan is saved and can be recalled.

Tool Activation (new and old firmwares): Initial activation of the IIDTool can all be done within the App when the mobile device is connected to the internet. Additional licences can also be entered in the App.

New French version (except for live values and car config, new firmware only)

Documentation: The user manual was completely overhauled and is now available in English (second from top) and French:

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/support/documents/IIDTool/

Jaguar support: It is now possible, upon request, to use the IIDTool BT or Pro on 2008 and up Jaguars.

Work on the Android App is still under way. If you are using Android devices only, please do not update to the special firmware 2439 or 3643 and up since the firmware is not backward compatible with earlier App versions. You can, however, revert to the latest beta if Android usage is required after using it on an Apple device.

Our current beta testers using Apple devices can benefit from these new additions by updating the App to V2.9 and IIDTool firmware to:

BT:
-Special Build 2439 (English, French upon request)

Pro:
-Special Build 3643 (English, French upon request)

We strongly recommend updating your mobile device operating system (iOS) to the latest version prior to using the new App and firmware.

As usual, feedback is more than welcome! For those who are not currently beta testers and want to test the new App and firmware simply send us an e-mail or a PM.

Of course, feel free to PM or send an email if you have any questions or need help with our products.

Cheers

Hi Patrick
I'm yet to get a diagnostic tool for my MY14 D4.
Interesting pics you have there for suspension adjustment.
Will we be able to adjust suspension heights easily and regularly??? I'm wondering if the GAP tool would replace currentmechanical and electronic methods of changing suspension ride heights.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew

You can already change the vehicle height quickly with the release version by using the saved settings. The new App and firmware do, however, present a nicer package. With the IIDTool BT used in conjunction with a mobile device, changes can be made on the fly.

The maximum raising and lowering values will vary depending on the actual height sensor calibration of a vehicle. On a D4, it can be raised by around 40 mm or higher in some cases. Keep in mind that a 1 mm change is equal to more at the wheel because of the sensors non-linearity.

Good to see you on this forum Patrick and thanks for the update.
Knowing more about what Gap is planning and working towards is appreciated, so keep it up.

I like the look of what's happening with Live Values. Anything you can do to make their use more straightforward will only increase uptake.
And it's good to see that all values are available too as this was something that I had personally made contact about a while back. So it's great to see user feedback taken on board by Gap.
I used ccf editing for the first time recently and did notice some of the new things you mentioned here (top bar, status bits) but I don't yet understand status bits.

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you like the new additions!

Status bits are additional information related to fault codes. They show the current status of various tests performed by ECUs. More detailed are available in the user manual.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing the new info Patrick,

Do you know when the beta version will be available for download? Or can I download it now? I tried to update firmware this morning but im current and saw an option to do beta but it said it was for navigation only.

Id like to be able to get to ECU Infos screen shown above and see what ECU's can be updated.

The instrument pack update for L31910 , it says it brings the display to the 2012 version. Can you explain what differences that would make?

Also what is the fast lane service? Not sure what that means and what can be purchased from bell.

The Engine Remap option I can't find but see it in the manual. Can you explain how to get this and what it does?

Some of the options available like "follow me home" I am not sure what exactly this does. Does the new manual improve on the explanation side of things?

Another thing I was trying to do this morning was get the speedo to be more accurate. I changed the 3.5% down to 2% but didn't really see any improvement when compared to the GPS.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Maybe we should get a sticky thread going for all things iiDTool?

Thanks

Hi Patrick,

So what is the difference between the BT and the Pro ❓

Is the Pro Bluetooth compatible ❓

And with the suspension height mods does this mean I bought a Llams for nothing ❓

How much and how do I purchase ❓

I think those questions wrap it up for now. :)

I purchased mine from LRSPARES in the uk. Competitive price and quick delivery.

I too was wondering bout the height adjustment and for off road driving. Been to busy to investigate further. So I will be interested to know this answer.

I can help a bit with a few of those;
The Pro is aimed more at workshop usage. See attached feature snippet.
With LAMMS you have flick of a switch control.
I purchased mine through British Motor Imports in NSW. www.bmiparts.com.au (http://www.bmiparts.com.au)

I have a BT IID Tool for my tdv8 L322.

The Peugeot 407 HDI has the PSA common rail diesel and Aisin 6 speed auto like the FL2. Will the IID be available for the 407 in the future?

Thanks.

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay, I was off yesterday.

Do you know when the beta version will be available for download? Or can I download it now? I tried to update firmware this morning but im current and saw an option to do beta but it said it was for navigation only. If you are using an Apple mobile device, send me a mail or PM and I will send you the details. If using Android, we will release the new App shortly. The firmware will then be available for all.

The instrument pack update for L31910 , it says it brings the display to the 2012 version. Can you explain what differences that would make? Functionality-wise, they are equal. The central info screen does look better with smoother lines on the 2012 version.

Also what is the fast lane service? Not sure what that means and what can be purchased from bell. The fast lane service provides a means of access to any ECU file which needs to be updated in order to fix an issue.

The Engine Remap option I can't find but see it in the manual. Can you explain how to get this and what it does? Remapping is purchased separately from BAS since they are his products.

Some of the options available like "follow me home" I am not sure what exactly this does. Does the new manual improve on the explanation side of things? The user manual does not provide information on each individual setting since it would make it too big and change the form factor too much. The first place to look is the vehicle's owner manual or our FAQ: https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/FAQ/ Follow me home light, like the name says, are activated when you lock the car and light up the way to your home...

Another thing I was trying to do this morning was get the speedo to be more accurate. I changed the 3.5% down to 2% but didn't really see any improvement when compared to the GPS. It is unfortunately impossible to have it spot on for the whole speed range. We are, however, working on tire radius for 2010+, already supported for D3s... In other words, D3/RRS owners with bigger tires can now adjust the speedometer accordingly.

Babs

So what is the difference between the BT and the Pro ❓ The IIDTool Pro is basically an IIDTool BT with hardware additions in order to housed all ECU files and the likes. It is made for the professional users and comes fully unlocked for all supported Land Rover vehicles.

Is the Pro Bluetooth compatible ❓ Yes, same supported mobile devices then an IIDTool BT.

And with the suspension height mods does this mean I bought a Llams for nothing ❓ We never made a direct comparison with other products in this regard but the vast majority of our customers can raise or lower their vehicles to their liking with an IIDTool. The maximum values are limited by the suspension ECU itself and will vary from one vehicle to the next depending on the height sensor calibration. On a 2010+ vehicle for example, a safe estimate is + 40 mm. Keep in mind that a 1 mm height change in the ECU is actually more at the wheel because of the sensors non-linearity.

Mungus

With LAMMS you have flick of a switch control. We do not offer a switch but changing it using the mobile device takes seconds or if already in the function, simply click on the desired setting and apply it. I think both products have their benefits depending on your requirements.

Roverlord off road spares Do you have the touch screen Nav system or the old BMW one?

rar110 We do not plan on expanding the IIDTool outside JLR for the moment.

Hope this helps, else, please ask

Hi Patrick,
I really can't understand why in a vehicle that is so heavily reliant on good battery voltage, that I can tell the time from any one of three clocks (analogue, entertainment unit and instrument cluster) but nowhere in this vehicle can I see the battery voltage displayed.
With the IIDTool simply plugged in, hey presto, the voltage is displayed in the instrument cluster.
Would it be possible at all in the future to change the instrument cluster display to permanently (with ignition on) show the voltage instead of the digital clock?

patgapinnov
24th August 2016, 10:04 PM
Hi Mungus

Agreed, voltage should be available on the instrument cluster screen, especially on such sensitive vehicles. Unfortunately, we cannot add it permanently to the cluster. This would require an extensive instrument pack firmware modification which is not an easy task.

Was cleaning the MAF's on my SDV6, so 2 MAF's. Thought I would check them after cleaning to see if both still operated but can only see 1 MAF air flow reading in 'Line Values'.

Why is only 1 air flow reading available in 'Line Value"? Is this the total air flow from the 2 MAF sensors or something else entirely different?

patgapinnov
24th August 2016, 10:47 PM
There are indeed 2 MAFs on the SDV6, only one is available in the tested live values list but the second one will be available once we release the new Android App.

Apple users running the beta firmware build 2439 can see it in the untested Live Values.

We are validating the new Android App and will release it in the coming weeks.

I have been beta testing with Gap to get battery live values for MY14 onwards. These were shifted to the Gateway module around that time whereas in older models the BCM looks after the battery.

Pleased to report success for values such as alternator current/load and battery SoC. see screenshot attached.

And thanks for excellent customer support Patrick.

A couple of questions for GAP:

127607
Can the vehicle speed be scaled correctly?
Why do the 3 fields across the top of the screen not always show the correct state? The voltage disagrees & the ignition is clearly on.

9th August 2017, 09:29 PM
Hi Milton

Thanks for the feedback.

Might I ask from which ECU is the speed value? Was it in the Tested or Untested section? There are many sources for this specific value.

The top bar with ignition, connection status and voltage is updated at regular intervals but some functions, like live data viewing and relfash for example, will take precedence which explains the slow update rate. This update rate will also be dependent on the vehicle itself. Keep in mind that these are only indicators for convenience and should not be used for diagnostic purposes.
