well, finally after nursing along with a dying transmission, it finally gets rebuilt next week LOL! is a good soldier my D2, even rescued a mates well bogged hilux! havent been able to tow with the old girl as it did not enjoy towing the horse float back from vic around christmas time. it has an awful drone and doesnt really enjoy lock up anymroe, and sometimes gets stuck mid gear change, sometimes changes ok, then sometimes takes off slow haha. i am super excited that hopefully will have some spring in her step after next week. then just hte steering issue to fix and car should be fine for a very long time to come :) crossed the 355000k mark now!
i am rather nervous as i never enjoy leaving my car anywhere, and it will be in the shop for a whole week :O its also only car i can drive. gets a bath and really thorough clean so is presented clean for the work to be done. (i think its good manners to make sure ones car is super clean for any one to work on them. used to appreciate a clean car when i was at work)
i am most excited to have the snapped cdl cable replaced whilst it is in for its transmission as well! :D

That will be nice for you:). Horse floats are the killer of D2 transmissions. When I bought mine with 200K on the clock many years ago it had already had the trans rebuilt and not far off needing a second from towing a horse float for pony club events. Pulling in third lockup would have saved the transmission as heat generated by the TC towing in drive not locked does all the damage. Unfortunately not explained very well in the Owners Handbook.
Good luck,
Nick

Thry do work hard. Will be upgrading the transmission cooler too before start towing more regularly with para events and training. Had to get a huge float because horse is 18hh still growing and the other is a shire horse LOL so poor disco transmission working hard. It still got home to SA from Vic with the empty float though which was awesome :)

Put the biggest cooler u can get to fit on it. Heat kills the modern transmission oils.

Yes horse floats kill the Autos, and the also break again after a new one is fitted by previous owner, when some stupid mechanic, and they put in the oil pump gears in backwards and it fails again on me.

Replace the transmission oil lines while you're at it. I've heard of a few cases where they have let go a short time after the gearbox has been taken out and put back in. Including mine

its as important as checking a TD5 oil pickup bolt,,
physically twist the "flex to steel" gearbox cooler line connections.
do it.
do it now.

My oil lines are pretty much already replaced thanks to them going one at a time :) its still in with the doctors :( transfer box isnt well and i think the cause of the snapped cdl cable. Im starting to panic with the cost of it. We kept it going until had enough money aside to fix but didn't factor in the transfer box too so getting extremely stressed now because we only have a singlr income. Also finding it hard as i cant drive other cars. Plus i miss my big white disco :( hate it being not with me haha.
