I have a 96 300tdi manual. When the vehicle has been driven and ignition turned off I often cannot restart the engine until about 1/2 hour has passed. The vehicle can be push started if on a hill. It doesn't happen every time but it can be very inconvenient when it does.

Any thoughts on the problem.

You say it can be push started so I assume the starter motor isn't cranking the engine over.

If so, try giving the starter motor a sharp tap with a hammer on the casing.

Your starter motor or solenoid may need servicing.

Further to the starting problem. The RACQ has started the car for the Mrs by using the trusty screwdriver on the solenoid /starter motor to start the engine.

You will find the solution is much easier than "tapping the starter moter with a---". (you cant get behind the turbo/air inlet assembly anyway)
Its the spade terminal connection to the starter solenoid. Take the air inlet to the turbo off so you can get to it, crimp the push on connector a wee bit for a good connection and away you go.
Its a Landy Thing!!
