I now have a new laptop.
Looking to shift my music/pics from the old to new.
Whats the best way??? both have bluetooth, the old laptop doesnt like bluetooth much at all, very hard to get it working, its wifi is fine.
With the pics I already have been loading them to a portable drive, tedious work.

Quickest way is to remove the hdd from the old laptop and connect that to a usb to SATA adapter which you probably don't have.
Easiest & most reliable way is copy and paste them to an external hard drive as you are already doing.
Don't bother with bluetooth. Wifi can be done but both laptops need to be on the same network/workgroup with file sharing enabled. not worth the hassle.
Also leave a copy of your data on the external hard drive after you copy it to the new laptop as a backup.

The external drive or even a flash dongle is the way to go for pics. Just select all on the required file, and drag the lot to the new drive.
Music. I assume you are talking about iTunes. This is a hard one. You can sign the second computer on to iTunes. ( I think they allow you 3 or 4 computers signed on ). This will allow you to download the music you have purchased, but that is about it. You don't get any of your playlists etc, just the music. To get the rest of your music, it seems you must use your iPod. You have to select your preferences correctly and connect the iPod to the new computer. I seem to recall then importing the complete music file to the new computer. However it did not sort them into the original playlists, and again i have a huge music file I now have to sort out. I have been told it can be done, playlist to playlist, but I haven't found a method to do so yet. ( if you find one let us all know )
