Weird Bluetooth problem

A couple of times while listening to music on the Disco Sport entertainment system being streamed via Bluetooth from my phone, the system has frozen. No sound, can't select another track, just gets stuck on the 'searching' screen. Nothing I tried - switching on & off, selecting different album, even deleting then re-pairing phone - would work, but then it would mysteriously come back a couple of hours later!

Well today it happened again and I noticed a pattern. The music drops out when I drive into country areas and beyond phone reception, and as soon as my phone gets a signal back I can play music again!

It's as if the car entertainment system decides that as the phone can't make or receive calls, it's going to ignore it altogether, not realising I'm using it to stream music as well!

As I'm on Vodafone this could be a regular occurrence anywhere outside a main metro area, so could be really frustrating if I can't listen to music on long journeys.

Anyone else noticed this happening, or have a solution?

Edit: Ok problem solved thanks to answer I got on another forum. Turns out my music is not stored on my phone like I thought, but in the cloud, and every time I want to play something it downloads that track. So, when I'm out of mobile range it will play to the end of the track already downloaded then freeze as it has no data link to download the next one. So, not a Discovery Sport issue at all, but ignorance on my part how my phone works!

You're absolutely right. I've never gone over my mobile plan's data limit before, and couldn't understand how I'd blown it the last three months in a row!

So, two mysteries solved in one.

And yes, looks like I'll be loading my music to a USB in future...

depending on your phone...

you can turn on and off various authorisations for various devices that pair via bluetooth.

my phone usually gives between 1-6 options depending on what the device I'm pairing to wants. (if the device doesnt support an option It doesnt appear as a choice)


Media Audio. This is the audio that would play from the media player type stuff on the phone
Phone audio. this is the audio as if I was making a phone call on the phone
Phone data. This lets the device access the internet over your phone. (which I assume is what your entertainment system was using)
Notification. This is notificaiton sounds I would hear on the phone when I get an sms or an alarm goes off.
Notification Data. This is the text of the message that appears on the home screen when I get an sms or an alert
File system access. This give access to the phones stored data like it was a USB stick so the device can use the phones files (which is what I assume you thought your entertainment system was using)


Dont forget that it might not be actively using the Data from your phone to access the internet to play music, if your location settings are on the car may be using your phones data to do handle its location/mapping workload.
