300tdi into Series 1 86"

Hi I just bought a series 1 a week ago and now looking for alternative engine. It comes with 202 but if cannot get it to run I am thinking to get a rover engine and saw on the web many put 200tdi into series but most of them are series 3.
I tried to look for 200tdi but found not that easy to get one. So thought probably should look at 300tdi or di instead.

Anyone has put 300tdi onto series 1? Is it straight in with original gearbox? I would like to see the setup if anyone has done it before. It would be good if its in victoria so I can have a look and learn. Thanks.

From what I remember from my research on my 200tdi conversion to a series 3, the series 3 gearbox will bolt up BUT you have to remove a couple pins from the engine and also drill/tap a couple more holes. Not as scary as it really sounds.

You'll have to check defender/disco differences in injector pump locations and see which will fit the series 1 chassis best. I used a disco engine with defender manifolds and turbo for ease of use. I'm not familiar with seires 1 though

There are some very informative posts/images in the Series 2 forum UK, go and have a read, you will find it in the section 'Workshop Wisdom' on the main page open that go to service guides open that under the heading 'engine gearbox etc.., and there it is staring you in the face, have a good look through it's all been done before, I know it's Series 2 and not Series 1, you could also look into the website 'seriously series' it covers Land Rovers from Series 1 to later models, both good websites, here is a clip from a internet friend of mine Steve P he has a 80" with a late model diesel engine in it, they do some fab trips across Europe

Have a search on this forum to see what Isuzurover has done with a 300tdi.

From memory he had to cut the engine mounts off it and then it can be made to fit,
