Managed a few more hours on Mr 8. Feeling better about him now the gremlins are gone. I went for the sand canvas it's a exmoor mohair special order only one they have ever done in sand as it was original fit. Decals are genuine as are light guards, as is the extended fuel filler it was missing as was the petrol only badge. Working on getting the chassis sealed and repainted, and have a new rear cross member to fit once time allows. Still a big list of small things to sort out once I get the time but at least its getting there.

Very nice Juddy. Canopy is perfect. Must be a joy to drive! Assume you gave mr8 a full respray at some point?

It was done in the UK, before it left, left it in the hands of someone to arrange etc, not 100% happy with the result, its fine but theres a few bits that are not right.

Tell a little more about the filler neck?
I'm assuming it's OEM?
With that extension for filling is the slide sealed and leak proof?
Would be a tidy setup for a filler change I'm needing to do on my tdci 130

That setup (apart from the locking cap and with variations like two or three hooks) was fitted to all Landrovers from 1948 until rules were introduced in various markets requiring narrow fillers for unleaded about the end of the eighties.

The extension lifts up for filling out of jerricans, and has a strainer at the base to catch the worst of the garbage.

The extension does not seal into the filler neck, but fully retracts and is inside the cap seal.

I think the fuel next extension was standard on the 130 in some markets, and a option in others, same for 90/110. Don't think it was standard fitment from 1948, as I have had others that did not come with it. Mine was just missing the inner tube with the strainer, makes filling from a jerry a lot easier.

You would have to change the filler neck, cap, breather pipe, neck to tank pipe to fit 2007 models onwards.

Light guards came from Landybitz. They are genuine LR ones.

My 98 Defender has the extendable filler neck with mesh filter, yes it's excellent for filling from jerry cans.

I was disappointed to find that my 2014 Defender didn't come with this feature.

Once filling up at a roadhouse in the Pilbara, the proprietor came over for a chat and said "so you don't trust my filters?". :) I said, "it comes standard, can't filter too much out here." He agreed. Obviously, you'd hope his filters would be a little finer, but the mesh at the end of the tube is excellent for catching anything bigger that might accidentally drop in off a dirty jerry can or bowser nozzle.

I'm looking into an extra in-line filter for the tdci... but it would be great to modify with this old style filler neck if they are readily available as well.

You can still get them but there getting expensive, and harder to source.
