Gday all,
I own a late 01' V8 Disco II (purchased late 02' from LR) - it just ran out of new car warranty last month, Since we have had it we have had some problems with the exhaust manifold bolts coming loose.

Its been fixed 3 times in the 6 months we have had it and according to the land rover guys in at Alto Newcastle theres not much we can really do about it as its a common fault ??

They told me that the V8's are prone to this as they have no flexible joins in there exaust unlike the TD5's, and any V8 owner who does alot of off roading will have this problem. We live at stockton and go on the beach all the time so i am not to happy about this.

Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? Is there any easy fix to this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mick.

Just a stab in the dark Mick, but I reckon you'd be needing a flexible joint added into the line. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Doesn't cost too much, I had one in 120" as part of full exhaust system for $400 all up.

End of the day it might be cheaper just to get it done.

Yeh that was my plan but i thought i would ask the question first and see if anyone else had the same problem because it just sounded a little weird... I was considering getting a full system done eventualy, but i have yet to find extractors for the SII V8....

Er the best fix is to fit the little locking plates that are usually on the exhaust bolts.
I do not know whether really late V8s have them but they are readily available and cheap from any Rover Specialist.
Funny, I do not always bother bending mine over as the bolts do not seem to come loose on my 3.9, and its hard to get a screwdriver/hammer /punch in some places to bend them..

8) ricks 4wd here at nerang recommended to me to delete the locking plates and fit spring washers, which i did and used locktite 515 [jam] on the threads - mine don't come loose anymore.
i also use '515 on the engine pipe to manifold gaskets -that works also.
you do have to watch your torques - you're putting those manifold bolts into aluminium.

Spring washers and maybe some thread lock liquid on the threads. Its not common, I know lots of guys with V8 RRs and Discos and have never heard this before, including my own RR. The other option as mentioned is locking tabs but they can be a pain.
