After 6 years the key covers have fallen off / worn out. For $8 on the web, I've purchased new covers which work fine. Much cheaper than buying a new key remote. FYI. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/08/448.jpg

Mine fell apart as well and after getting ribbed by my son about the condition of my key I did look at those covers.

But I opted for the original Land Rover part LR052882 that replaces the outer shell and apparently won't fall apart.

Bought mine from advance factor in the UK about $22 delivered from memory and about 15 mins of fiddling about changing over the inards.

Hello,
Incase anyone needed part numbers for the genuine key fob covers:

These are the Discovery part numbers:
The early large style key fob covers: LR052882
The current style key fob covers: LR059382 which supersedes to LR078922 (both numbers are in stock locally)

The are indeed quite cheap to purchase from your dealer.

While there is no recall, it is subject to a 'technical bulletin' LTB00631v3 & will be replaced whilst under warranty if reported by the customer.

Thanks for this post - after trying to stick the rubber back on (not very successful), I did a search and found this thread. Just called the dealer and was plesantly surprised to find the cost (March 2017) for the old style is only $21 and they will do the swap over for me.

I got the new cover that supersedes the original cover. Last week it too started to fall apart. I thought it was plastic compared to the rubber one, but alas, this one is also delaminating after a year

You can get these leather protective covers from eBay. I've got two of them - have found that they work very well. [wink11]

Yeah, same here. The replacement falls apart in the same manner as the old.

I'm waiting on delivery of the newer and physically smaller / lighter style key fob shell ~$12 I think I paid ex ebay. I intend to do a heart transplant as per this Disco3 post.

Disassembly of the old key fob is documented here. Useful for those upgrading to the new style fob or just DIY repairs to the old style fob with a replacement shell.

Job done, works like a bought one. And not only is the key fob upgraded, my D4 has been upgraded to a Range Rover - at least that's what the key fob now says. [bigrolf]

I bought 2 of these silicon covers, in "his" and "hers" colours and fitted them to our Disco keys.
They offer excellent protection, and also have "Range Rover" on the front!
