Hi All
I have a 2.4PUMA.

Looking at a MANTEC snorkel. Is the 'one-piece' plastic one the best option, then plumbed up with Wayne's Sealed Air Box kit? Or is the 3-piece an option also. The three piece looks a bit more 'Camel Trophy' l guess! The three piece also comes in steel as an option.

Which has the two long bolts that lines up with the original fittings? That be easier to fit no doubt??

Out of interest what makes you look at Mantec over safari?

Hi
Only that the Mantec are quite reasonably priced straight out of the UK (Craddocks). I think I was of the view the Mantec are used at the factory RAI also?

I got a Mantec for my 2.4. Best looking snorkel (in my opinion).

Easy enough to fit. You have to drill 2 holes in the widow pillars which is a bit nerve wracking. Took an hour or so from memory.

Hi Spud,
Thanks for the reply.

Which Mantec one do you have? I assume then the Mantec one uses the same bolt holes in the quarter panel?

Have you used Nugget's air box system?

Thanks,
Michael

This is the one I got (didn't know there were options!):

and no - I didn't do anything with the air-box.

Great!
Did you buy it locally?

Nope - imported it direct from the UK.

I've got the Mantec plastic jobby fitted to both of our Defenders with the Nugget stuff sealed air box. Fitted the airbox at the same time as the Mantec. With the plastic you drill 2 holes in the window pillars for the bracket and 2 holes in the side panel for rivnuts. I fitted most of the first one with assistance for the sealed airbox and passed tools to someone else for the whole fitment of the second one.

Its the only job on the 110 I enlisted assistance from someone else other than Pocket Rocket.

Hey Mike I think the Mantec plastic one piece are a neater fit and look better than both the other Mantec and the Safari. Haven't heard any bad reports and lots of good ones. Planning to buy one from UK also, only because prices here are double, which is crazy for a piece of moulded plastic on a massive manufacturing run. Will also get a locally made nugget kit to make it properly airtight. Sounds a bit of a fiddle to fit! Maybe we should have a snorkel fitting party!

Mantec look as close to the OEM snorkel as possible. With the 'Nugget Stuff' sealing run added, I think its a great combo.

Got mine from the UK as well. Much cheaper, even with shipping, than buying local. Sad really, no reason for them to be crazy bucks here!

I fitted one on my 110... easy to do... measure twice, drill once! An hour is plenty of time!

Personally, I don't think the 'styling' of the Safari sits well with the Defender shape. IMHO!

If your vehicle is modified the Safari is the best flowing unit.

The others, I have been advised, restrict its breathing.

I've one of these that doesn't suit my fold down windscreen if you're interested?

I purchase a mantec on eBay, was only $130, seems to be the real deal, I like the look of the of Mantec , I do find an increase in wind noise on the hwy, just got back from Fraser Island and was surprised how much sand I found in the air box, I noticed a few vehicles with Safari's put stockings over the air intake. At the time I thought it was a little extreme , little did I know.. I would have to agree with Tombie, as I was fitting a light bar on my roof rack and was running the wires down the snorkel and was quite shocked at how narrow the chamber was. Actually went for a drive without it , not sure it it was change in sound of the engine breathing, but it felt like it breathed better without.
