I have a 2010 Disco4, i was very disappointing when i got it to find out it didn't have USB audio streaming (silly me assumed it would since it has blue tooth phone!). I really really want my music to play via the usb port and i cant get it to work.

I have tried 3 different USB drives ranging from 2gb to 8gb, I have also tried using my iphone 6 via the USB charger and i get no response from the usb port what so ever with anything i have tried. (no errors i just dont get any response that anything is plugged in)

I tried a friend's iphone 4 that has the old charger port via the iPod connectivity and that worked fine so i know its not the USB/ iPod ports in the console that are stuffed.

My question is, has anyone used this port and if so what device and how?

thanks,
Moe

My wife's iPhone 5 and 6 both work fine on the ipod connector just with the 30 pin adapter.

If you look in some of the technical forums there's stuff on Bluetooth adapter options (kinda like how those FM adapters were in for a while).

That stereo USB doesn't support media streaming as you know, and Android has stopped supporting USB mass storage mode, so there's not a lot of elegant solutions.

That said I know there's plenty of ppl playing music off USB sticks, must be just a case of stick format (maybe try FAT32), and music file format/structure?

It should work via music on a usb stick my 2010 did as does my 2011, but it can be very glitchy, there are threads about it on the disco3 forum that go into format options and file types, so it could be worth doing a search over there.

Does the usb supply power? To say charge a phone?

Thanks guys I will have a look at file formats. No the USB didn't even charge he phone when I used the phone cable. It didn't even recognise it.

I have also tried two types of adapters for the iPod connector to convert the 30pin to 8pin and neither of them worked either.

So frustrating!

I had a nice surprise the other day when playing music off my USB drive. There was lots of music on there the vehicle couldn't see, never mind read.It seems its now all there and will play:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:
Must have had some sort of upgrade whilst plugged into the dealers computer at service:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:: cool::cool::cool:

Yeah you might want to get that checked out - the only thing I use the USB port for is charging my Samsung, so I know it should have power. And no, the car can't see it when it's plugged in.

I hate to say it but it can be worth getting the genuine Apple adapter, cos some of the cheap ones only do power and data, not media. They usually specify though.

This from another thread re bluetooth streaming:

The Viseeo Tune2Air WMA1000 is the best available. It plugs into the Land Rover cable that has Apple 30 pin connector and you connect any phone via Bluetooth.
Takes a minute to set up and my experience is it just works. So much so I completely forget it's there. Had to search my inbox to find out what it's called. It will continue playback if you get back in car and it starts where left off and it links the phones song menu to the car screen.
A bit pricey but the best way I've found. Had now about a year and used daily. Viseeo TUNE2AIR WMA1000 Bluetooth Music Interface Adapter FOR Streaming TO CAR | eBay]
[Yes for sure the TUNE2AIR is the best option for bluetooth streaming if your car already has iPod connectivity via the 30-pin cable. You say not cheap but it's still cheaper than the other alternative which is a completely new phone module for like $650 or so... the Jag guys have been using the TUNE2AIR as well, works very well from what i've seen.]]

I would have thought it more likely that the original Land Rover configuration was done for people with class and taste, and the system simply didn't recognize your taste in music. :p:p:p

Sounds pretty good to me, although I could do without the Stevie Nick's stuff!

Yes, my iPod started working via the USB port after a recent service. I seem to recall having been disappointed when I first picked up the car when it did not work, although had forgotten to mention this on its first service.

I made a post on a similar thing a while ago and in my MY16 with the STANDARD USB port the following is the situation

APPLE products (works fine to stream as USB mode and to charge devices)

ANDROID Phones and tablets (no streaming whatsoever). The system does not even recognise being plugged in

MUSIC Players and USB sticks) (FIIO etc) works fine as a streaming device and charges at the same time but no lossless support for FLAC etc (only MP3)

If you manage to the get the factory option with the IN CONTROL APPS it then ADDS a second USB port in the glove box and then you can get your ANDROID devices to work as long as you install the Landrover APP on your device. It then has a separate menu area in the on board screen for it. I have tried seeing if there is any after market solutions to this (and a DAB+ module to suit Australia but no luck at present)
