Upgrade Timing

I am seeking some feedback about doing some upgrades please.

I have a tow pro elite gathering dust and have a LLAMS kit on order that I hope will be here in time for the QLD Mod day (I'm giving myself the whole weekend)

If i am also going to do a traxide upgrade at some point and my question is, is it worth doing it all at the same time as panels etc are coming off or am i trying to do too much in one weekend. (hopefully there will be plenty of advise on hand on the MOD DAY :D)

I would definitely be installing the Traxide kit and the Tow Pro at the same time. Run all the wires to the rear of the car together. It only took me about four hours to install the Traxide kit - I wouldn't imagine that running the wiring for the Tow Pro would add much to that, as long as you have worked out where to mount everything.

From what I've heard of LLAMS (I don't have it myself) - it's a pretty easy job to install it and it could easily be done as a separate job.

Yeap... definitely do Traxide, Tow Pro & LLAMS at the same time... it will same hours.

Need to decide on where you are mounting the Tow Pro and run the appropriate cable between the front and rear passenger cubby at the same time as putting the Traxide cable through. If the Tow Pro is at the front - run Red (brake lights) & Blue (output to trailer brakes) to the back. If the Tow Pro is at the back - run power from the front (battery) to rear (also need to run an Ethernet cable back up... but up the passenger side). Make certain that the cables are heavy duty enough for the current/load requirements).

To do the above you need to take the driver side foot-well panel were LLAMS is installed. For me re-installing this cover took longer than I expected, messed with it for 15 minutes!

My brake controller was already installed when I got the vehicle, but I have installed both a full Traxide kit and Llams myself.

Both are pretty simple and both require the driver side kick panel removed, so I can see some logic in at least doing that part at the same time.

For me, the Llams install was only an hour or so.... much of which was me making up my mind where to put the knob. :angel: (be nice :p )

The Traxide kit was a bigger job - however, I fitted the D3 kit into a D4 meaning I had to move a bunch of stuff in the engine bay as part of the install. The instructions are very clear and it was easy to split into several sections...

I'd say go for it.... I'd definitely be able to do the Traxide and Llams in a day ...I doubt the brake controller would add much to that.

I've done all three Andrew and perhaps work a bit slower than some because I don't want to mess it up or be under pressure.
I would certainly need some time on the second day to get finished all three.
And sometimes it's the unexpected seemingly simple things that take ages.

As the other guys have said Traxide & Tow Pro together would be first prize because they have shared tasks & cable routing.
Llams is a smaller more geographically contained project.

Also, I would think about some prep work beforehand, e.g. put together the battery tray and isolator mount and even install into place. Or mount Tow Pro dial, you'll want to get that right (cutting hole in light binnacle).

Thanks Guys.. will order the Traxide Kit today!

To clarify the big knob position (and to save Scott from getting banned :D) I plan to put the Brake Controller knob on the light binnacle.

I am also pretty slow at this, preferring to take my time to get it right and not break anything

It's a nice easy job...

A magnet tool is handy if a trim clip decides to drop down - they can be recovered by lifting the second panel easily enough..

Yep, I would say an essential tool. I also bought a few spare clips just in case.

Genuine, here's a couple of part numbers:

Door Sill Metal Clip - IPN500090 (usually can retrieve with magnet tool as mentioned)
Panel under Steering Column - FYC500040 (can end up inside centre console but usually retrievable)
B-pillar Lower Panel round plastic plug - EYC106710 (only buy if gets broken)
A-pillar kick plate round plastic plug - LR013135 (should be ok)
