So I finally got 49-705 home tonight :D:D

He may be a tad rough around the edges for now and after our little disagreement 10 minutes after picking him up dumping the transmission fluid in a Bunnings carpark. The rest of the trip from Sydney to QLD with a No.5 in tow ran really well.

But as per the topic title, how common are defence issue only maps.
He (yet to think of a name or find his name from the unit) came with a surprise I didn't see till tonight.

I'm assuming they'll only be training maps as their of shoal water bay and 1 clear overlay plus one of the Townsville area.

The 3 maps on the left have either doubles or triples, the very right is laminated and of Townsville
lol, not sure if I should attempt to post pics of the maps themselves on the net since it specifies Defence Sensitive etc.
But I could probably take pics of the lower left map details and map number etc if wanted

oh yeah ignore the red Italian carpet :p

G 'day mate. good score!
The bad news is that you have to immediately relinquish them to an appropriate person, cleared to 'Secret', to add to their collection :p

Seriously though, you could argue that anything printed in quantities would already be in the hands of the Red team. BUT there will be airfield/ drop zones etc marked on there that shouldn't be broadcast.
As to the opening question, relatively rare, even in the military. Need to have, only type stuff.

Your find does beg the question; what numpty is checking these things before they are released?!?

which means you need to send me a PM to obtain the correct posting and handling information.

They may not be as rare as you think but as they are supposed to be controlled items there shouldnt be too many out of captivity.

Where they differ (primarily) from the same scale maps available to civvies is they are custom selections of an area, If for instance they are of a military training area that a civvy would have to purchase 2 maps to cover and have a lot of coverage of areas either side of the training area the military map would only be of the training area.

There are also some changes in the level of details included in areas that are restricted access to the public.
