When stripping my defender...well the first time i removed the spare i noticed below the bracket holding the tyre there are two round rubber stops on a piece of metal pop riveted to the door.....first time i have seen them, well the TDI never had them, i assume they assist with supporting the bottom of the tyre so that it doesn't bounce up and down in an effort to prolong the life of the door......
i did notice i don't have the original rear door on mine......and its only done 54000km
is this standard on TD5's

Never seen anything like that on any Td5's that I've been associated with.

It has a Land Rover part number from memory.
See holes in the pic below.

The Td5 rear door has a steel skin and I suspect a stronger frame than the Tdi's with their aluminium skin.
I've had my spare (std 235x85R16) on the standard mounting for over 200000 kms of varied terrain, including thousands of kms of corrugations, and door still closes without a problem.
Seems a lot of attachment holes for that plate which wouldn't be taking any real load.
BTW is that the G4 orange? Looks good with the black trim.

I forgot to check if the rubber stops line up with the internal structure of the door
