I have had the ARB bar from new (2010), I was beginning to think it was a bit of overkill as I don't do much night driving.Today traveling from Bingara to Bundarra with van in tow at about 2.00pm had a medium size roo come from nowhere when traveling about 60kph. It was single lane bitumen so had my eyes on the road, he came flat out from the side and hit about center on the bar near the top.

The bar is undamaged but looks like it now it is leaning slightly back and the gap at the back has disappeared. Are these bars mounted with 'crush cans' that give on an impact, if so can they be replaced.

No airbags?
Yes there are collapsible mounts in front of the chassis mounts
Sounds like you got off lightly

What do you mean no airbags?
If you mean why didn't they deploy, it was only a 'minor' impact.
My D 1&2 had crush cans and they looked like they could be replaced. I would think it would be the same so you should be able to just replace them if there was no other damage.

You do realise it takes close to a 15t force to activate them...

I've hit triple figures when it comes to Roo strikes...
Even the 6' Red wasn't enough to do more than dent the bar...

And yes, the D4 uses a deformable mount which can be ordered separately.

Well our D3 airbags went off after hitting a small to medium sized roo. No bull bar though. Wrote the car off... Airbags alone were $8000 in parts.

I remember that thread. Something wasn't quite right with the sensor or it took a very direct hit to trigger on a Roo..

I've taken a Roo at 140+ with nothing more than a splat...

Yes, bar was on at the time.
I'm thinking that your strike must have been directly to the sensor.

I got a roo a couple of days ago up here, luckily small compared to all the dirty big red carcasses on the side of the road.Damage, led indicator on bar loose, havent checket to see if it not working yet, gard out of alignment with door pillar, and tail dent in door. Also have a hairy GOE wheel.Hit it at 80kmh,made a hell of a bang.

You guys are doing better than I did, I collected one in a work Tojo at 110 and it left the factory steel bar a mess.

An OL or ARB bar would be much stronger than a tojo factory bar,min hit on the corner, spinning it around into the side.passed the body again yesterday, about a 1.4m roo,so not huge.

A folded soft drink can would be stronger than a factory tojo bar, this thing was a right off.
110kmh on the noise overtaking a car out of Nyngan, full tray and trailer.
Only enough time to see it and go 'oh shi-' before it hit.
