There's a couple of good threads on this already.
Most people use a remote mount unit with all controls on the mic for a neat install. GME and Icom seem to be the most popular brands.
Here's a couple of threads for a start:

GME TX series with all the controls on the mic. Mic is mounted on a Proclip no screw or glue mount and the main box is hidden under the plastic trim to the left of your foot in the footwell.

Or you can use double side tape like I did.
Cheers
Scott.

Hey Scott jw what brand of double sided tape works for that? I have to mount the dbs controller which is similar. Any of the 3M types?

Pretty much exactly as I have installed mine, except for that I bought a Uniden unit, also with all controls and extension speaker in the mic.

I used 3M Command Strip in the same location as Scott and it eventually failed.
I assumed it incorporated the good quality 3M adhesive but am less sure now.
My next plan is 3M VHB tape that seems to be the best but am also wondering which product Scott and others may have used.
Cheers,
the other Scott

I used the 3M "VHB" tape but cleaned the surface with isoproponol first, and it has not failed, even up in the Kimberly with all the corrugations and heat.

Yes, I wish there was an extension speaker in the mic for mine because it is hearable but definitely limited in volume by the speaker, being buried in the footwell.

Well spotted! It's in two pieces, the front where the mic hooks on and the base.
Cheers
Scott.

Andrew, is the cabling long enough to relocate the unit under a seat?

Not currently, but it's possible. It's still very usable where it is, but if making the choice again I would probably go for one with a speaker in the mic head.

I don't know about other brands, but the speaker in the handpiece of the Uniden radio is definitely not its best feature. Pretty crappy sounding really, and you have to have the volume turned up reasonably high (which attracts the ire of SWMBO) to hear things clearly.
I've been planning to put in another extension speaker somewhere. In the D2 with a GME radio, I had an extension speaker mounted on the "B" pillar, just behind my right ear. I think there might be an airbag or something there in the D4, so I'll have to plan it a bit more carefully.

That's what I have ordered to be fitted to mine when the ARB Bar arrives.
