Hi folks, brain picking time again :D

97 HSE, looking to install uhf, lightbar, etc.

Had a quick look yesterday evening, not the best light conditions, but couldn't see any of the usual grommets etc in the firewall where most "normal" cars let you feed wires through to the cabin.

The light switch I'd like to put up in the dash, above the centre console, and I'm trying to figure out a good spot for the uhf.

Any hints?

Had a similar issue on mine when working on it. I will prob use the hole that the vacuum hose goes through on drivers side when I need to wire in stuff. Should not be too difficult to enlarge and pretty easy to access from both sides.

There is a large grommet behind the Coolant expansion tank which has a big mass of cables going through it. It comes out behind the drivers side panels.

Not too hard to get quite a few other wires through there

I recently put a light bar on the front of my p38. Rather than adding another switch inside the cabin I used 2 x 40 Amp relays as per the picture. The relays are mounted in the space directly in front of the main battery. The light bar only comes on when both the fog lights and the high beam is selected. The 36" bar I have on the front of mine is 300w with 10 and 30 degree beam. There is also an in line fuse on the power supply from the battery ;). Meaning that when you dip your lights the light bar goes off too. The fog lights can still be used as fog lights by themselves too.

This is probably OK in WA, but in NSW and I think in QLD you must have a switch inside which turns the Bar or Spots off if required.

They are still hooked into the high beam circuit via a relay but if the switch is not on, the earth side of the relay remains unconnected so no LigthBar.

I built a distribution panel and mounted it on the inside of my battery box.

I'll try to get a pic

I have a similar LightBar as well, but a different mounting :)

The bar can be turned off by turning the fog lights off. You then have your "normal" high beam without the light bar.

It's a great idea, but again in NSW it would technically not be legal since foglights are meant to be used only in "inclement weather"

That said you see people driving all the time with them on as well as frequent examples of illegally mounted spot lights and lightbars etc

I have never heard of anyone getting done for having foglights on that would be crazy !

So unless you were very very unlucky you would be fine with that setup I reckon and it saves running wires through the firewall :p

I agee Steve. Plus I can still use the fog lights by themselves if it gets foggy. I certainly would not be putting high beam (plus light bar) in those conditions 😎.
