Looking for recommendations for an overhead cargo net for the 110.
- Elastic and hooks, or ratchet tightening?
- Taut. Doesn't start sagging over time.
- Durable. Can take decent weight.

Looking at the Mudstuff one but its showing as out of stock on their website.

Not sure if you watch 4wd action or not but when jamie from jts was in thr dvd's he had a cargo net above the rear seats in his 130. From memory it was made of a narrow type of seatbelt material. Woven in and out of itself like a grid and attached somehow. I have always wanted one but never been able to find it

I've got very good quality elastic netting in the back of my 110 with excellent fittings from Mud Stuff UK.
Only downside is that gear bounces in it.
I'd look at the webbing style if I didn't have a cargo barrier.
Great for light weight items though and recommended.

Dolium have just introduced some roof nets and cargo barrier net to their range. Netting Solutions (http://www.dolium.com.au/retail_catalogue/cat/Netting_Solutions.html)

I've just ordered a cargo barrier net for a customer, so I'll see what the quality is like when it arrives.

Thanks - this is what I was thinking might be the case with elastic ones. But I presume things like pillows, blankets and air mattresses would be ideal for this.

Thanks very much Murray. Took a look at the link. It seems like anchor points need to be added to the body for this - is that right? Appreciate any feedback you can provide once you have it.

Hey thanks for these links. That Highline hard shelf is interesting.
I plan to sleep inside the 110 on top of the storage platform, and it looks like you could put all your sleeping stuff up in that area, and still have room to slide in for beddy byes.

Presume it's well-anchored and approved, so in an accident it doesn't launch forward into the heads of the occupants sitting up front. Might ask them some questions.

One good thing - uses existing bolts so no need for extra holes or modification.

I've seen those types too. They look a bit more hard core than the elastic ones but I wouldn't know if that's true, or if it becomes more tedious to use over time if you have to use the tightening system.

Cheers for the tip. Will see if I can find that clip.

I've just invested in the Dolium roof net:

http://www.dolium.com.au/retail_catalogue/OLRNL_item.html'ref_cat_id=Netting_Solutions

Quality looks good for what it needs to do. I'm just working out how to fit it. It's a little bit too long to sit neatly between the cargo barrier and the back door. I can fix this by hanging it over the barrier and it will attach neatly to the cargo barrier brackets.

I haven't worked out how to mount it at the back yet. I need a hook or something in each corner mounted to the panel above the little quarter windows. I need to pull the rear trim off and have a look at my options. Another thought I've had is to bolt a length of angle or something to the grab handle mounting holes, which I could also mount some lights in.

Any ideas welcomed.

Cheers,
Jon

I'm interested to see just how it fits myself. It says it's to suit Defender, and doesn't mention any required mods, but we'll see when it gets here.

Hi Murray,
When you get the cargo net can you detail how you've mounted it.I've looked at this and their roof net but don't fancy drilling holes to mount either.
Thanks .Martin

I have one of those and it's a 'Boab' brand. I got it from opposite lock.

Ditto. Mine's a Boab, and after having it sit unused while I contemplated whether or not to drill mounts for it I finally decided to just make it work with what I had. Here's a couple of photos of the set up using IKEA hooks, cable ties, and tie down straps. It holds most of our soft items such as clothing, sleeping bags, pillows, self-inflating mattresses, etc. without noticeable sagging.https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/410.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/411.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/412.jpg

It should be fairly easy to make something up yourself. I plan on making a small one up for our 130 just using some lightweight mesh I have on hand. Ours will probably be used to hold the kids soft toys, hats, jumpers etc.

I'm going to dig this up and ask for a follow up on the Dolium roof cargo net.

I am looking to put one in my Hard Top Perentie, but measuring up I'm not sure how 90x1100 will work.

Can anyone post any pictures of theirs installed and what they think of them?

My apologies for not reporting back on this, I've been moving house, Christmas etc etc etc.
We ended up fitting the cargo barrier net by attaching the top eyelets to one of the grab handle fixings and the bottom ones we wrapped half way around the body stiffening tube and fixed to a bolt holding that tube to the body.
The top fixing is not ideal, but my customer only wanted the barrier to keep his dog from getting to the front seats, rather than to stop heavy objects flying around, so he preferred not to drill new holes in this case.
I don't have any pictures, but the net itself looked good quality.
The main problem with these nets is, they're a generic design, not made to fit any specific vehicle, so you need to sort out adequate fixing points.
Sorry I can't be of more help at this stage.

Cheers, Murray

Here's my solution to internal roof storage - a bit of excess pool fencing, a couple of bolts for hinges at the front and a couple at the rear on a bracket screwed to where the grabb handles attach. Mainly carry soft stuff such as bedding etc. Has worked well for more than 10 years.

I've just ordered a Dolium cargo net for $179 plus postage as an alternative to a stiff cargo barrier.
From the pics I'm hoping to be able to mount it to the mountings for the grab handles at the top, and the bottom to the mountings for the seats.
Advantages of a net versus a stiff barrier to me include it's a third of the cost, it is rated to 125kg and it can be moved aside at the bottom to give access to the second battery under the rear of the drawers.
So I hope it works.

I fitted the upper buckles to the grab handles by unscrewing the handles, fitting the bracket and refreshing the screws in.

This is the result.
But I ran out of time to fit the base, because I didn't have the right length socket to unscrew the bolts. Will be a Saturday job. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181129/a1ddadec30e6b4e54e7da355891ff9d1.jpg

I did mine a bit differently in my 90. There are three attachment point along one side of the net, & two on the other side. As there is nothing to attach to in the centre of the roof, I put the side with the two straps upwards, through the grab handles (to get the net tighter) then forward to the bracket which I mounted in an existing hole in the trim via a rivnut.
The lower outer straps pick up the bracing bar behind the seats, & the centre one to the front of the draws.

Been in there a couple of years now, works well. Fortunately I haven't had to 'test' the load rating.:whistling:

I mounted mine with the narrower length up, as when I tried it the other way I could not adjust it to be tight enough not to sag in the middle.
So narrow side up makes the centre buckle redundant, but it pulls tight across the top. The picture on the packet shows narrow side up.
I mounted the wider bottom corner buckles to bolts on the wheel arches.
See how it goes.

I've just installed the Dollium Boab Overhead Cargo Net (OLRNL) to my 110.

Similar to DiscoMick I've attached the front end to the side grab handles.

At the rear I found behind the plastic trim a corner bolt that mounted the ends perfectly.

Then to take the sag out of the middle I threaded the tail end through the tail grab handles.

It leaves the front end a little open but I'm just shoving pillows, sleeping bags etc in there so a sudden brake should result in a pleasant thud to the back of the head.

Looks good.
I'm considering doing something similar in our new shed, to put soft items like sleeping bags and mattresses up out of the way. The Doluumare rated to 125kg so that should work.
Another option is the cargo nets for trailers, which are about $80 each, and have the advantage of having fine mesh to hold smaller items.
A couple of nets should do the job.
