I have a 2013 HSE, last weekend I removed the headlight switch to install the remote switch for the brake controller. When I removed the light switch I notice the Signature lights turned on and stayed on. When I replaced the switch the lights turned off.
I noticed that with my Headlights on Auto the signature lights are off during day light. If I turn my lights to park the signature lights come on. Is it possible to turn on the signature lights when the car is running and the light switch is in auto.

Thank you.

Do they come on with vehicle running and light switch switched to off?

In my MY14,the DRL lights do not come on until you put it into gear after starting;);););););)
Try starting it,putting it in gear, back in neutral again, they should then be on.
I thought I had done something wrong after wiring spotties, noticing they wernt working:):):):):):):):)

OK, some more detail. Last night I put some blocks under a wheel, started the car, put it in neutral, hand brake off.
With light switch off, all lights off
With light switch in park, only signature lights
With light switch on normal beam, no signature lights, just normal beam
Auto no signature lights, just normal beam.
I don't think this is correct. Does anybody know how to fix.

Mark,

Are you confident that the signature lights previously came on with the light switch set to auto or light switch set to off?
If so, that means you do have the DRL function enabled.

However, it is possible that you do not have the DRL function enabled, in which case the behavior described is normal and unchanged.
In that case, DRL can be enabled with an appropriate diagnostic tool.

If you have DRL enabled and now it's not working, perhaps try a hard reset.
Refer to the FAQ sticky thread for details (near the bottom).

And one last check, as per Andrew's post, did you put it in drive before going back to neutral for your test? The key to DRL activation is being in drive.

Scott

Scott,
Thank you for your assistance. I am not sure if the DRL ever came on in Auto. I will try putting the car in drive tonight. Do you know if Australian delivered cars in 2013 normally had DRL activated?

Thank you.

My understanding is that DRL was not activated until 2014 when the signature light changed from discrete LED bulbs to the continuous LED strip.
The discrete LED bulbs are relatively low power parker-only lights, also enabled when headlights are on.
And in fact these so called "fairy lights" do not just get enabled as DRLs with a diagnostic tool as I said earlier.
Wiring changes are required as well:

Scott,
Thank you again. That is exactly what I was looking for. I searched and couldn't find it. Thank you.

And in any case, the "fairy lights" are totally useless as DRL's. Nowhere near bright enough to be seen at any distance at all unless at night time. I have them on mine, and wouldn't waste any effort attempting to use them as a DRL. ;)

If you want DRL's, either convert to the updated headlight style (something that I couldn't be bothered doing, unless you currently only have halogen headlights and want to take the opportunity to upgrade to HID headlights at the same time), or source some suitable after-market lights. The best that I have seen are the Osram LED DRL / Fog Light combination, which replaces the OEM Land Rover fog lights.

I have seen these working (Tombie has a set installed in his D4) and they are effective both as a DRL and as a fog light. :D

(Don't use those horrible cheap & nasty orange scotch clip joiners shown in the photo above though - join your wires properly - solder and then insulate).

Further to what Brian has said, your HSE may have factory DRLs.
These are the straight strip LEDs down low on the bumper in the image below.

Part Number VPLAV0066

If not fitted, they can also be purchased and added but this is pretty expensive.

And as mentioned, if you have halogen lights and are considering an upgrade to xenon c/w DRL, this thread will be of assistance:

I would be interesting to see if you had DRLS, on a switch in the Fog Lamp position in some states. In QLD if you have your fog lights on during the day they will pull you over and trying to book you. I have had it happen to me on another vehicle.

Yep, i know how stupid this is :censored:

I have actually looked up the legal requirements for DRLs and fogs for Qld and posted in this thread:

The fairly lights don't work when I switch on the fog lights. The only time they turn on is with the park lights. My car doesn't have the LED DRL.
I think it looks great when the fairly lights are on during the day. I agree with the comments that they are not effective DRL. My question is, it appears some people have upgrade pre 2013 LR4 with Xenon lights and the DRL have worked with no setting changes. If this is the case, that should mean there is a continuous power in the head light wiring that I should be able to tap into rather than running wires to the EGR sensor. Does anybody have a headlight wiring diagram? Though when I look up the wiring instructions for LED DRL they seem to run the wires into the car straight to the fuse box.
cheers
