There was a post on here not long ago of an Aussie one (although built in that other place).
The top drawer is supposed to be Harmonic Balancer TD5 Ross version $840 + GST + Postage www.omegatechnical.com.au (http://www.omegatechnical.com.au) or www.rossperformanceparts.com.au (http://www.rossperformanceparts.com.au)

There is also an article by Davros in Katanning WA on a repair job of which I have a copy - probably would not help you though.

snapped two harmonics just like this

DA autos here in Wangara sold me a OEM not genuine and I still got charged 999 bucks

I have been running mine with out a the weight on the balancer for 15 months

still have not yet snapped a crank .

engine is more snappier on take off

a few things crossed my mind when I snapped 2 ballancers ..could it be an inferior part ..or is my injectors not fuelling correctly

Hi Geordiepride,

Having done 450k on my original balancer, fuelling correctly is an interesting point. Obviously your injectors are programmed correctly so I would be interested to see what is the cause of balancer failure.

when I purchase mine it had 200k on the clock my engine now has 300k on the clock ..

my first balancer let go between the rubber and this mad a terrible knocking noise unsure if this balancer was original but the this did not smash off

my 2nd balancer from DA autos only lasted 13 months ..one month out from warranty snapped just like yours ....lucky for me mine happened on my drive way and when I heard abnormal noise I was quick enough to shut down the engine with out causing other damage... this was an OEM and this smashed off the bolts casting points and no stress fractures in the rubber damper

iam am unsure if my injectors are perfect I don't have any scan tool to test
but I have no diesel knock and engine runs smooth

but given the fact I need the car I decided to drive without the weight on the balancer ..I am well aware the risks involved but no ill side affects so far

seems like the torque convertor is enough to take away the frequency

just like some convert there duel mass fly wheel to a solid fly wheel

another factor that maybe to harmonics to fail on this engine is the Grrr Grrr Grrr affect

I had one break like yours.
Caused by the idler bearing ceasing and the belt burning through.
As the belt seperated the harmonic balancer didn't like it.

Yep,

Fitted a Ross HB, AWSOME piece of kit. Shop around for your price. I ended up getting mine for under $800.

Cheers, Chris :twobeers:

all back together now and a huge thanks to andersons land rover in hervey bay as they really looked after me with price [ very happy ] new harmonic balance, fan , belt , expansion tank started leaking around the small tit underneath, and I had the old girl chipped while it was off the road and my maf was dead too so I should have some good motoring for a while now ;-)
