I just bought some maxi drive shafts (the ones for the diff lock if I can afford that in the future).
I tried to fit them today. the shaft on the pass side (the long shaft side) had some bulges and could not fit through the stub axle.
has anyone else fitted this type of shaft?
have I got the wrong shaft?
I should mention the rear axle is from a 96 defender with disc brakes.

On a 92 Rangie you can do it.
You cannot have an oil seal between the axle and the hub, ie the hubs become oil filled, in a Rangie anyway. I think it will be the oil seal stopping it.
So if your hubs are greased you have to delete the oil seal first.
I do not know if a Salisbury, has the same issues, so perhaps you should call Mal Story on Monday.

Both axles easily pass through the relevent stub axle.
There is a raised and ground section on each axle where it seats against the axle tube seal. If you are converting to oil lubed hubs and the RTC3511 seal, remove the stub axle and remove the axle tube seal, otherwise be very careful when passing the axle through the seal or you will be running oil lubed bearings whether you intended to or not.

G'day PD
I have just fitted a maxi drive to the rear of my Perentie (Not sure if the wife knows) I tried to smuggle it in.
The instruction book states that the larger size locking spline on the long axle will not pass through the stub axle. I asume that this would be the same for your later type diff. So you will need to remove the stub axle, insert the long axle and reinstall the stub axle.

I had no problem fitting to my 95 defender, you will have to remove the stub to knock out the axle seal as its recommended to run the maxi's on oil. I re-grease the wheel bearings at the same time, after my trip across the simpson oil should have worked it way out to the hubs by, have topped the diff up a couple of times..
