Could someone please tell me what size cylinders go on the rear of my 88 series 3.
I got a rear kit from rover parts.
Got a cyl hone from Repco, and cleaned up the cylinder.
When I looked at the kit, it was for a Inch cyl.
The Rear cylinders on Bert are 1 1/4.
Is this correct, or has someone put larger cylinders on the rear.
Thanks

Had a look in my manuals.
One says front and rear 1 1/4 seals in brake cylinder.
The other says 1 inch rear, front 1 1/4 seals in brake cylinder
Different year maybe

I purchased a 1978 ser3 88 10 inch.
I did a google and found all sorts of interesting info. most quote different dia. Land Rover Parts - BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDER KIT - S1 (1954-58)+S2+S3 4 cylinder petrol or diesel. 88 (SWB) 2 stud fixing (http://www.roverparts.com.au/inc/sdetail/57669).
I replaced the front and rear cyl/drum/shoes and was told they are the same front and rear on the base model.
The brakes are not good.
Couldn't stop in straight line and often rear locked up.
The other ser3 I compared it to have boosted brakes are are different.

The last time that I repaired the brakes on a 88", it had the same front brake cylinders as a 109" rear. I seem to remember that the rear brake cylinders were smaller.

I think Aaron is correct - while the earlier shorties had identical front and rear brakes, I think by the later series 3's the front wheel cylinders were larger than the rears.

Billy I think you will find they are 1" ID wheel cylinders on 10" brakes.
I just done the brakes on my 71 2A 88" and they are 1" bores, and from memory they are identical to my series 3 88".
I can measure them up to be certain for you later today if you want.
My Series 3 is 1974, so not a late one.
Cheers, Mick.
