next question.... Looking to purchase a second set of wheels for light offroad work. Mainly sand etc. I noticed BFG are in the process of releasing an A/T tyre in 245/65R17 size. Anyone tried that size for fitment on the L550? Can't see why physical fitment would be difficult. Overall increase would be 1.7% taller so virtually negligible.

Was it good luck or good thinking that you ended up with 17's? :D

I'd go for a standard size tyre. It will be cheaper and more accessible being standard size. The standard size appears to be 235/65/17 which is about 742mm tall. However, I would much prefer 245/70/17s which are 776mm tall and generally have a high load rating. This size would lift the car approximately 15+ mm. That's not a massive increase in height or width. The result would also be good for beach work.

Ha Pedro - the 20's will stay on the car for day to day and I guess while the car is still new. 17's are as big as I would go for the fun stuff (knowing me, i'll end up giving the 17's far more air time than I might otherwise admit to, especially once the whole new car thing wears off).

Hmmm, yea Rar, I looked at the 245/70 size but wasn't sure about clearing the front struts etc, which is why I got excited over the 245/65 size. Would love the extra bit of height though.... Decisions.

Thanks for the input guys.

I deliberately optioned mine with 17 inch wheels after having 19 inch on the D4. I doubt that it will handle significantly worse than the 20 inch rims in normal every day driving.

Anybody know whether I can fit 255/60R18s in place of the current 235/60R18s on my DS? Having trouble finding an AT option other than the General Grabber AT in the 235 size. The Pirelli Scorpion ATR sounds like a decent tyre but 255 is the narrowest offered to go on my 18" rims.

OK, now I understand tyre sizing a bit better, 255/60/18 is almost certainly too big.

LR does ship a 245 on 20” rims so for TTTTT the width is not a problem. Also found that BFG KO2 is available in 255/55R18 and is designed for 8” wide rims just like the LR ones.

So now I’m tossing up between the “safe” option of the General Grabber AT in 235/60R18 as an exact replacement for my stock tyres, or evaluating the risk of a much better KO2 but in a size that’s 10mm wider than anything LR offers.

Any advice?

There's a lift kit for the DS!
Eibach Pro Lift Kit <br/> Land Rover Discovery Sport Buy suspension from Eibach including adjustable suspension and automotive coil springs. E30-71-007-01-22 (http://www.eibachdirect.com/p/9215032/eibach-pro-lift-kit-br-land-rover-discovery-sport-.html)

With that in place, it seems like 255/60R18 will fit in the arches height-wise. A few have done this, though there are questions about whether it's legal and safe to make both those changes.

But I have now read that a good number of people are running 255 width without any problem, which was my earlier concern. I've ordered the new springs for mine just for ground clearance sake. Probably going to stick with 29" height 255/55R18 tyres to avoid legal/safety concerns and also to match the size of the spare wheel.

I'd be interested to hear how the spring lift goes TB, as I've been thinking of doing it to mine.

In case anyone's interested in getting a spare set of 17" DS rims for use with offroad tyres, noticed some for sale on eBay at what seems to be a good price...

In a word - great! See post #23 (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l550-discovery-sport/250341-learning-4wd-discovery-sport-post2699838.html#post2699838) in my other thread.

Wanted to loop back here on the legality piece too. Here's a link to the relevant Queensland authority:
Minor Modifications publication (PDF, 816 (https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/-/media/Safety/Vehicle-standards-and-modifications/Vehicle-standards/Vehicle-standards-instructions/G19.pdf?la=en)KB)

It says in part, "the suspension of a vehicle fitted with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) may be modified without certification provided it is not combined with any other lift (i.e tyre and suspension, suspension and body block, etc)". So I made the right decision to go with the spring lift (50mm max allowed) and leave the tyre diameter at 29".
