She through up a alternator fault last night and the batter light came on. Wasn't to far from camp so returned. Checked the voltage this morning at alternator and battery and was charging at 14.4 Volts all good, started driving for 5 minutes and the alternator fault warning re appeared. Tests the voltage and it was 12.1 at the battery and alternator, earths check out ok.

Looks like it's the alternator, could there be any other culprits?

Mine did the same thing when I first bought it.

Next time the light comes on, pop the bonnet and smack the rear of the alternator with something like a block of wood. If it fixes it, it's likely your brushes are worn out or sticky.

Mine were worn out. Land Rover don't give a part number for the regulator/brush unit, only for a complete alternator. I did some digging around and ended up buying a china bosch clone regulator. Fitted it and solved my problem immediately for only $30.

If or anyone else is interested, I'll post a link and photos.

One of the brushes had stuck and lost contact, cleaned it out and back on the road. It was mentioned to me best to service alternators around 200,000 kms, mines done 190,000kms.

oops sorry I'm slow on this. I pulled off the black plastic cover but the replacement regulator didn't have a part number.

Here is what I bought from China: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Voltage-Regulator-Alternator-For-AUDI-VW-BOSCH-MERCEDES-PEUGEOT-1197311211/691653977.html'spm=2114.13010608.0.0.7VTaT0
