I'm planning on installing Fyrlyt 9000 to new ARB bull bar.
Just wondering where people put the light switch.
Considering I've already installed Tow Pro next to light switch and Llams to LHS of steering wheel, as many do.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

A mouse switch is about the best/neatest/easiest.
They aren't easy to find.I got mine from ARB Canningvale WA.Its IPF branded.I could only find them in wiring kits on Ebay, may have changed.

I use remote control switches. Get them off ebay for a few dollars and they are very reliable. Keep the fob in the ash tray for the odd occasion you might use it. No need to run wires inside the car either. Much simpler than a wired switch.

Never heard of them,interesting idea.
I guess flat batteries will be an issue stored in a hot car?????

Now that's an excellent idea. Have never heard of these before - wish I had come across them before wiring up lights etc on the front of my vehicle.
But you have solved the issue of how I was going to wire up the camping / reversing light I have for the rear of my vehicle. ;)
A couple of these remote relays will be excellent for wiring up camping lights. :D

Here is one I used most recently.
DC 12V 10A Relay 1CH Wireless RF Remote Control Switch Transmitter Receiver BLK | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-10A-Relay-1CH-Wireless-RF-Remote-Control-Switch-Transmitter-Receiver-BLK-/272104398995?hash=item3f5aafa093)
This one is not waterproof but as the post above shows there are many different types. i have two under the bonnet and they work fine from within the car. In both cases I have a manual over ride switch under the bonnet just in case but they have never failed.
I still use a relay and this switch is just in series with say the high beam feed just as a normal manual switch would be.
Very useful for switching lights etc without running additional wires or finding places for switches.
On the issue of batteries in hot cars I am not sure, I live in Melbourne.

I have a battery (2 x AA) powered fridge temp monitor sitting on the shelf above the top glovebox. Has been there for more than two years and batteries have never gone flat. ;)

Big diameter cable. Can't place enough emphasis on this...
As for a switch - plenty of choices - do you have a preference?

Don't use a switch with a light/indicator in it at that position.
It will drive you crazy reflecting in the side window.

I utilized the front fog lamp switch, an extra relay in the line, but it works like a dream. It even has an indication in the dash :) and has the advantage of no extra aftermarket switches.

So for clarification,
The fog lights go on with the driving lights?
Makes sense, I never use the fog lights.
Where did you locate the relay?

Hi,
As high beam is useless in fog, I would have thought fog lights would be best wired to low beam or park lights. They should have a very low flat beam to avoid back glare from the mist.
Cheers

My son was fined in NSW for having his Focus' fog lights on when there wasn't any fog, so be wary of having them on any time except in fog.

Put it this way - fog lights on the front of a D4 aren't switched by the High Beam...
So I'm puzzled how this is wired and remains compliant with Road Traffic Act and ADRs...

Just had a quick search eBay remote control switch (click here) (http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/12v-remote-switch)
So in this instance, does an additional relay need to be installed?
I assume that is its one like this you still need a 30amp relay in series also?
DC12v 10A Relay 4CH Wireless RF Remote Control Switch Transmitter + Receiver AU | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC12v-10A-Relay-4CH-Wireless-RF-Remote-Control-Switch-Transmitter-Receiver-AU-/281633516830)
But if its one like this... does the 30amp relay in the switch remove that need?
DC 12V 30A Relay 1CH Transmitter Wireless Remote Control Switch Receiver RF AU | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-30A-Relay-1CH-Transmitter-Wireless-Remote-Control-Switch-Receiver-RF-AU-/272322284174'tfrom=281633516830&tpos=top&ttype=price&talgo=undefined)

This is the only relay I ever trust. Never had one fail. They last forever.
Twin Headlight Relay Fused Genuine New Era Twin Fused - Made in Japan- NLR-132 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Twin-Headlight-Relay-Fused-Genuine-New-Era-Twin-Fused-Made-in-Japan-NLR-132-/131839617342?hash=item1eb240e93e)
They have been making this relay for more than 30 years so they must have got it right.
I would not trust the relay in the remote controlled units. Just use then to drive another relay.
I have not found any issues with the cheap remote switches interfering with the car security or other functions.

Finally got around to installing Fyrlyt 9000 lights this weekend on to new ARB Bull Bar.
I mounted the switch on RHS of steering column.
I mounted 12-24 volt convertors on a 3mm aluminium plate, located behind bull bar, RHS, with relays and circuit breakers, (not shown in pics)
Picked up high beam wire behind LHS headlamp, Blue/Black.
If I decide to install a winch I will need to relocate, not likely anytime soon.
Interesting note, headlights won't come out fully with BB in place.
Thanks for all the tips.

Install looks like you took some time - just some quick ones.
What C/S wire did you use? Looks a bit light on in the images.
One other issue is the orientation of the Relays.. they will fill up with water and fail (sometimes fused on)...

Hi Tombie
Your right, its not a quick job, with convertors especially.
Wire from battery to C/Bs is 6mm DC solar cable.
From relay to convertor & lights is cable supplied with lights.
Relays are installed with terminals facing down, all connections with heat shrink.

Just keep in the back of your mind that it doesn't any longer meet roadworthy requirements with the Foglights non-functional.

Sorry for the revival of an old thread but another question.
Would it be difficult to rewire the light switch so you use one of the fog light switches for driving lights and the other fog light switch turns on both front and rear fog lamps.
Just using the switch as a switch, you would still run the wiring and use a relay for the driving lights.

6mm diameter solar wire is about 4.5mm^2 which is the recommended size by Fyrlyt

I've got to say that it is unbelievably crazy that there is not somewhere that auxilliary switches can be (easilly) fitted on D3 or D4 vehicles.
I know they have to have "the look" in the dash area, but surely a small area with nothing behind it could be designed for those of us who want to put in an extra switch or 2.
After all, they are an off road vehicle, and people will want to make their own changes to them to suit their needs.
I've spent quite some time at Triumph Rover spares here in SA looking at Discovery wrecks and trying to figure out mounting places for switches, based on what is behind the various panels and trim on the dash.
I can't say I am too much wiser for locations.
Mind you, I do come away from there with a slow down message in my brain based on the roll over damage to so many vehicles.
Everyone with a 4x4 should wander around a wrecking yard to get an idea of their individual vulnerablity!!!!

And for the D3 at least that's where the factory spot light switch goes for those unaware

Take off (its just clipped on) the cover plastic that sits in front of the radio/touchscreen - undo the 2 torx screws, remove radio controls/clock.
Start pulling the RH trim off - it just clips in.
It's a bit awkward with the indicator stalk and steering column, but it comes out and does go back in with patience https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/08/216.jpg
