Hi Folks,
I am keen on adding a tacho in my instrument cluster and lose the clock.
I can get a OEM unit from the UK for over $550 AUD delivered.

There should be a VDO alternative a lot cheaper, available in Aus.
Would someone have a part number for 52mm unit please?

Regards

IMHO the 2" tacho's are a bit small to read accurately.

Have you considered the alternative of using a Nanocom running in Instrument Mode? The Nanocom will give you a digital display together with a number of other parameters on the same screen, plus you'll have the ability to carry out quite a number of diagnostic functions including reading and resetting fault codes.

There is a group buy about to start as soon as three or four more members indicate their desire to take part - need a minimum of 12 participants before the discounted group buy can start.

Thanks Xtreme,

Sounds good. Excuse my ignorance, but would you run the nanocom mounted on the dash?

Is a tacho really needed? I haven't never needed to look at one.

There is a dash/windscreen mounting kit available.
See here Products - NCOM30 Mounting Kit - NANOCOM Diagnostics (http://www.nanocom-diagnostics.com/product/ncom30-mounting-kit)

I use a universal RAM mount which doubles as a phone mount when not needing the Nanocom.

It's always been my preferred way to drive. And as I am a new fender owner 3mths, I like to know what revs the engine is doing at 100 kms/hr?
It sounds like 5000! :-)

Part# YAE100790
I ditched the clock moved the fuel gauge and put the tachometer beside the speedo.

This subject has come up before, don't know how easy it is to get a 5000 rpm tachometer?
The factory one is plug and play.

Google that part# there are a few around a lot cheaper than $550

Paul.

Fair enough.......

You are using 5th gear? Or maybe somebody has changed the gearing.

I am using 5th. The gearing is very low. Am currently also looking at fitting a D2 t/c or overdrive. There are pros and cons for both from what I read.

I've only seen the VDO 52mm tachos in 4000 and 7000 rpm.
I have the 4000 version in my county.

I don't want to sound like a salesman but I have a working VDO Vision 80mm tacho that I JUST removed. It has a mount that fits on top of the dash. I removed it as I did not feel the need for one and I am trying to remove as much as I can.
