Hi all, looking around the engine bay today after a 2500k trip inroad and off and noticed a very slight leak from one of the injectors where it screws into the head, question is it a home job to replace seal/washer if there is one, should I stop driving, I did notice on one section of my trip that I seemed to use a fare bit of fuel around 20l/100k, luckily that section was only 150ks after that it went back to normal ie 12l/100 towing camper into head wind. Anyhow any words of advice appreciated. 114866Thanks Bruce

The injectors don't screw into the head. They are clamped down by the forked steel plate you can see running between 2 injectors. Check that it is tight first.
Is the leak diesel or oil? It is strange for diesel to be leaking out there. I would run the engine and see where the leak is coming from.
If an injector is loose you will hear the combustion gases escaping and see soot, not a stain like that.
If the leak is not from the fittings then you may have a cracked injector.

The most likely suspect is the rocker cover seal where it fits over the top of the injector. It will be engine oil.

So you have to pull all the injectors and lines off to replace the rocker cover seals? That is a bugger of a design...

Just checked the clamp, all tight. Can't hear anything when the engine is running, and yes I think it's oil rather than diesel going on smell. Cheers again

Yup. And the worst thing is that the injector sealing washers are $60 each... genuine LR. I haven't priced them from Ford though. ..
