Broken water trap on fuel filter

Just a quick question.
I have broken the water trap off the fuel filter on my TD5, is it just a matter of replacing the trap with a 10mm metric bolt and rubber washer until i can get a replacement trap next week?
Is there any repercussions in leaving the electrical plug disconnected for 3-5 days?

Perfect soloution.

In fact many people just leave it like that, it's only the water sensor, the trap still works, just be mindful to drain it every so often

Left mine disconnected for about 3 yrs . Always handy to carry a bolt anyway . Some of the aftermarket filters come with a plastic screw fitting that has a drain nozzle on it.

As suggested just drain it on a regular basis, into a glass jar so you can see if you have any water in the system.

And yes Julian, 10mm bolt worked just fine. Will ensure this stays in the car, along with the rubber washer just in case the situation happens again - would not be any fun in the bush!

Just isolate well the sensor's plug as to not get hurt or cut it and isolate the wires well cos it's on the same fuse with the fuel pump
