I guess the new Land Rovers are far too soft for this.

cunning aren't they?

Australian patrol vehicles.......they are not!

They pitch and roll all over the place in that video......and in fairly docile terrain. The army doesn't travel over docile terrain and never , ever travel anywhere at the speeds suggested in that clip.

And the Army never have campfires and awnings out at night.....bloody rubbish...Toyota trying to give people warm feelings.

Don't think they have been offered a contract to supply same, from Defence. However, they have mentioned private sales and mining industry enquiries would be welcome. Cunning, indeed.

I actually like the toyotas a lot. They sort of copy the 6x6 perentie's, but land rover did it first. The 6x6 toyota's would be great for touring and camping but the engines would not withstand as much punishment by the armed forces as the isuzu 4bd1 can, and a quick EMP and they are stuck. Still, theres good and bad in everything.
The Hawkei is a purpose built "protected" vehicle and cannot be compared to the toyota or the now obsolete perenties.
Im still not changing camps tho...landy's for eva...😎😎

Cheers Rod.

I read in the LRM the new Defender not expected until 2019. Could it be possible the new Defender will be based on the new Discovery family, and Defender becomes a memory?.

Hi there.
You're dead right about them not being as resilient as the 4bd1, not even close actually. Also they wouldn't be very powerful at all with all that extra weight.

I'm sure the Toyota fanboys will love it. Pretty soon I expect to hear the some of the same disingenuous rubbish like Toyota built the Snowy Scheme. I can't wait!
