HI all how are we,
well ive decided to upgrade and get into the RR Sports.
I am looking at a couple 2008 TDV8's that have roughly 105000kms.
now apart from the basics like service history, suspension, electronic checks ect is there any major things or signs i should be looking out for?

Firstly I don't own a RRS so I'm not experienced with them. However on the L322 the front airbag springs/struts start to fail from about the 8 year mark. Dealers charge about $1300 each, but there are other OEM suppliers for about 1/2 that price.

Also, that's low km which is better if it's longish drives, followed by lack of use. Short drives are not good for diesels. Especially diesels with an EGR.
I assume it's a 2.7 tdv8?

I think 2.7L would be the tdv6 and 3.6L would be the TDV8. I would LOVE a TDV8!

Just read OP properly.
And the 3.6 is real nice.

Hi Iamkong,
3.6 V8 you will not be disappointed. Beautiful machine, regularly gives me around 10.9 to 11.2 klms/100. Goes like a "stabbed rat", torque to die for. I would look for a good service record, check on gearbox oil change, for me this was more relevant with the extra power of the V8.
My alternator died at 161,000 klms, apprantly this isn't uncommon, not to bad if you have a bit of time and the anotomical qualities of a 5 year old. I found finding everything I wanted spec wise in one vehicle difficult. You either get one thing or the other, not everything. I like the centre arm rest cooler, I don't have the sat nav, got ACE makes for a good ride, no sunroof, useless with a roof rack anyway.
I got a one owner from new well loked after vehcile, I was lucky in tha regard.
No timing belts on the engine or the fuel pump......... whoo hoo!!!
3.6 V8, a decision you will not regret, enjoy :)
Cheers Marty

Out of interest did you consider a slightly older L322 as an upgrade? I don't know much about the P38s and haven't ever driven one, but I wonder if a L320 is the obvious upgrade?
All that aside, my wife and I do both really like our RRS TEV8 for what it is, and as great as the 3.0L SDV6 is, and a more practical choice for a few reasons, it feels right for a Range Rover to be a V8 - and they certainly sound like one! I never get tired of listening to my wife drive off up our street in the morning! :)
FWIW ours is a 2010 update which apparently has a firmer suspension tune than the pre-2010 model, but I struggle to tell the difference with the Dynamic Suspension Control (DSC or ACE in D2 terminology) on or off. Perhaps it makes more difference in the earlier cars but I wouldn't hold out for it.
We couldn't find one with the cold climate pack, it is a rarity even on the Luxury models like ours - my wife really misses heated seats.
Happy hunting, look forward to seeing what you end up with! :)

I struggle to tell the difference with the Dynamic Suspension Control (DSC or ACE in D2 terminology) on or off.Perhaps it's because DSC is Dynamic Stability (sway) Control and unrelated to the anti-roll bar (lean) control.

They eat front brake discs, and if you get a 7 seater, there is no spare tyre as the electronic mechanism for the third row seats lives in the spare wheel well.
You get a small air compressor and a tub of green goo. Make sure the wheel nut adaptor is there...I got caught once with the adaptor being left behind at the service centre :censored:
They are a beautiful car to drive. Very powerful. Service costs will hurt the wallet...
Woops...sorry, I see you are talking about a 2008 model....I am talking about a 2014 model.

I'm sure the goo will great when one gets a rip in the side wall from a sharp rock!. I suppose Land rover thinks buyers will only drive on the tarmac and do one goes off road in them.

Hi Stuart02,
I've had a couple of P38's, the 4.6 HSE model. Beautiful vehicle however both were plagued with suspension issues, only minor but irritating, mainly to do with the valve block. The engines and drive lines I found to be great, the internal comfort exceptional one of the many reasons they were over $100k new. I picked up two good examples for around the $10k mark a few years ago. Coil conversion kit could well be the go, both of mine wee on air.
It's worth the experience if you have time and the weekends to spare and around $7 to $10k for a reasonable one. They are getting a bit "long in the tooth" now, I doubt I would have another one.
Cheers Marty

Hi,
Purchased my TDV8 RRS 2008 at APPROX. 192000KMS. Sight unseen from an auction.
Expected a few issues.
Front Anti Roll Bar was leaking. Replaced! From Lrdirect
Full service.
Issues since:
Squeak from Near Side Front. Front Air bag strut replacement. Small cracks at top of strut. From Lrdirect
Alternator died. New Alternator. From Lrdirect
Currently got a rattle from front of engine. Expect belt tensioner as fault. Happened last night so have to investigate.
Air Compressor leak. Fixed as per suggestion from RRSort.co.uk. All good for 8 months.
Awesome to drive. Love driving my TDV8 RRS!
O..new brake pads too: Karcraft.
Hope this gives you an insight to ownership. Note, this was an auction purchased car with mostly full service history used for towing a big caravan.

Thanks so much for all the info,
The RRS TDV8 i was after sold :( but have another couple to look at sitting on 130oookms, and also a 2.7 TDV6 with similar kms. Leaning to the TDV8 as ive done more research on them than the TDV6's, but theres $2-3k difference so that might be a factor. see how we go
thanks again for the tips and info

LOL. Whatever it stands for, on or off I can't pick it.

Re the dynamic dampers on TDV8 2010 switching mode to "Sport" ie the twisty road symbol makes bugger all difference on TDV8. There was a thread on RRS.co.uk about this. Apparently on the Supercharged model it changes throttle a bit and suspension a bit. But on TDV8 everything remains same except for some claimed small changes to suspension. I reckon you would have to be a race car driver doing timed laps to pick any difference I certainly couldn't [emoji3]
