Where in Brisbane would be the best/cheapest place to maxi's fitted to my 96 Discovery ?

If anyone wouldnt mind sharing what they paid for them that would be appreciated also.

Hi Noz,

MR Auto's in Redcliffe, $2500-2600 supplied and fitted complete rear.

Mal doesn't do in car work these days, and recommended MR's to do the install.

I didn't ask about the fronts yet

Their contact details are in the preffered and recommended suppliers list.

Did that include locker? What about changing the ratio?

Cheers

Andrew

Yes I have spoken to them already, just interested if there was any others for a price comparison.

I know MR do great work and will more than likley go there anyway but I am just curious.

From memory I paid $2550 supplied and fitted for my rear Maxi locker with axles into my D2 - fitted by Rick's 4x4 in Nerang. Great bit of kit and I also had the 4.11 diff gears put in at the same time as I had changed my tyre size and screwed up my gearing.......dam, that was an expensive month 8O

Good luck, aye, Mick

I fitted a front one and I got the locker off mal for cash price, went to Ricks at nerang, had them fit it and total costs was about $2350. The rear and front are the same price on pre-88 Rangies.

Money well spent, you won't regret fitting one style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Rear maxi locker and god knows what else he did but total was $4500. Done by the previous owner. One day I might crack it open and remove the diamonds and gold.

I think you'll find he replaced your rover rear end (series 2 Fender)with a salisbury one and had the locker fitted at the same time. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Thanks for that. I did wonder if it was to do with fitting the auto and getting the ratio's right. I have maxi drive stup axles in the front as well.

Must be something about other states that make it cheaper than NSW, cause the cheapest i found to put one in my D2 was B Davis AT $3600 supplied and fitted that includes the rear tail shaft replacement, the next cheapest was $3750.

So how come so cheap Mick for the D2.

Baz.

Hey Baz

The price I paid maybe worked out to be a little cheaper than you have been quoted probably because I - in a moment of visa madness  - decided to put a whole lot of other things in at once. While Rick had the diffs apart to put the diff gears in, I thought I may as well stick the rear locker in and then I thought well if the locker goes in then I will obviously be doing some more serious off road stuff so I may as well toughen up the CV's, so they went in with the axles, and at the same time Rick beefed up the tail shafts to cope with the added strain 8O . There were a few other small items he did but I had worked out a price before with Rick to fit the Maxi kit and by all accounts, he did it for a good price.....I think he was surprised by the amount of work involved though!!
Good luck with your search. Once fitted you will get over the price pretty quickly as it really is an astounding piece of engineering and will take you anywhere you want to go https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Well the CVs are $2800 for the kit, i don't know how much the 4.11s gears are but i'm only doing the rear at the moment so the gears will have to wait as i don't know if you can put the 4.11s in the rear only.

Thanks Mick.

No probs Baz

I suspect that you can't just put the 4.11's in the rear only, you will have to all diffs - someone else will confim i'm sure. What tyre size are you running? I went the 4.11's as I am running 32" and it threw my gearing out something rotten off road. The 4.11's now give me the crawlability I need in low range - actually slightly slower than it was with standard gearing and tyres and much better than before.
It's a funny old game the modification thing, one thing inevitably leads to another but there seems to be no way of stopping - definitly adictive  .

Good luck and as I said, once the locker is in you will not regret it https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ .

Only have the 31s for now although it's about 4% over on the speedo now the biggest thing was the power drop 8O , the price of Maxi drive went up $700 thats why so dear now, Roverland in Vic can do it for just over $3000

We will haggle with B Davis and see if we can bring his price down.

Thanks, Baz.

Yeah I ended up fitting (got Rick to fit) a True Speed speedo correction unit as my readings were about 10% out from memory and it also dissabled out my cruise - got to have cruies!! All reading about right now though and I have cruise again.
