My TD5 defender started intermittently not firing the starter motor and slowly got worse.
I found the issue was a crack in the keyway on the ignition switch.

Simple I will just buy a new ignition switch, or so I thought...

It appears the part I need doesn't come with the ignition switch. Does anyone know where I can get this piece from? Does it come with a replacement barrel? I was hoping to avoid buying a whole new barrel.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like starter motor solenoid contacts more than the switch to me, is it making a clicking noise when the starter motor isn't firing? At any rate, your best bet for that part is probably to call up a Land Rover wrecker and get an email you can send those pictures to.

It should come with the switch
I fitted a brand new barrel and switch asembly. Lucas part...
The useless switch contacts wouldnt switch in the start position. Pulled it apart to find the thing could never work as required.
Appalling quality control.
Sent it back and got another switch, same issue. Ended up grafting a D2 switch I had into the mech.

Long winded way of recommending you get a switch from shop front where you can put a multimeter on it before you take it home and prove it works.
