Temporary fix in Puma intercooler hose

If you are unfortunate enough to get a hole in a Puma intercooler hose there is an easy quick temporary fix. All you need is some plastic (or copper) pipe as used in your kitchen plumbing and some jubilee clips. Cut the offending hose at the hole, put both ends of the hose over a length of the pipe, having first put two jubilee clips over the pipe. Tighten the jubilee clips over the hose ends and you are back in business......temporarily.
Should be O.K. until you order in a new hose.
Have seen it work but you probably would not have these "repair" bits if you were in the outback.

When I toddled into the dealer to get the recall work done on that hose as a preventative measure, they didn't do the work as they said I had a steel section where their rubber hose would have been installed. So I ended up with a box of parts to install 'if needed'. I wonder if this was a home repair...

I did a Puma IC hose bush repair a few years ago, had to drink the Guinness before using the can and some race tape to effect the repair. :D

Self fusing emalgamating tape, gasket rubber and jubilee clips, i reckon that would work, I know it works on coolant hoses, the self fusing tape seals really well it just needs something else to hold it on

I repaired mine with a bit of exhaust tube and had it replaced under warrantee, only to end up with it doing it again. still running with another bit of steel in there!

My BAS IC hoses arrived 3 days ago, so once I can walk after my knee replacements, swapping out the OEM hoses is high on my to do list. Along side my. New Slick Shift!

I tried a rescue tape repair a few weeks back ... lasted about 5km before leaking
The plus is I saved a lot of fuel driving 300km plus keeping the boost under 9psi

Oh thank god it's another common problem with our beloved defenders.

As I had the same problem with my08 130 on the way back from Rotorua NZ. I thought that it may have been the intercooler pipe punchered. I didn't have the kit to sort so booked it into my local garage and they did the same thing as a few of you all have described by putting a sleeve in as a replacement pipe was going to be around the $600 mark......:eek::eek:

The mechanic explained that it had been catching on the knuckle joint of the steering column I think and over time it's just worn its way through......

That would be about 3 months or so ago now and the repair is all good so I'm in no rush to be buying a LR part at that much......👍🏻👍🏻

There's a service bulletin on this and Land Rover replace the hose and instal a steel bracket that supports the hose clear of the steering knuckle. No charge, so contact your local LR dealer and get them to check the service bulletins. I had mine done yolks ago.

Thanks for that I'll make some further inqueries with my local LR dealer in Wellington.

Yup all good and I think the only thing we've not had this week is snow.......:D:D but you never know. Still getting the aftershocks but no where near as bad as Monday morning when I was at work in Wellington too.....:D

Just some more info....

Another temp repair I've had to do over many years with inter-cooler hose splits on Jeeps (as Jeep parts are where Land Rover parts were 30 years ago, no stock in AU and come via a slow camel) is to:

*cut a square of any available hard rubber, such as a floor mat, coat with instant adhesive, rubber cement, or tyre repair glue, stick in place over split and use 2 or 3 large zip ties to hold in place. Its lasts for as long as needed, months if required...
