View Full Version : Wire to coil identification ?

Hi All,

I actually started to do something with my very original 1971 ex-army 2a last night, I cleaned the corrosion out of the battery box.

Whilst doing that I noticed one of the small wires going to the coil is very frayed, it comes from the firewall, so I presume it's 12V from ignition switch to exite the coil ? can someone confirm / deny that please ?. The other wire on the coil (small white) goes to the coil, presumably an earth.

Thanks
John

Positive side of the coil is from a power source via the ignition circuit and the negative side goes to the distributor.

Cheers, Mick.

Thanks for the pic. Is the battery still sitting on the actual battery box in place ? or is that something temporary to hold the battery ?. I was wondering how the battery box is attached, and whether it's attached to guards / chassis / other ?

Thanks
John

If you go back to post #4 of this thread and look at the photo that has been posted you will see how the box is attached to the chassis.

There is a platform mount welded to the chassis and a separate holder frame is then attached to that with four bolts.

Hello again.

The battery carrier arrangement can probably be seen better in this photo:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/11/574.jpg (http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/Tilly011/media/PA261235_zps81e0d307.jpg.html)

The top frame and clamping bolts to hold the battery steady are not attached in this photo. Note also that the air cleaner carrier and horn mounting bracket are part of the frame that bolts to the welded support stand.

If you can get hold of the series 3 parts manual, group L chassis frame, page 2g02 - shows you how the legs of the bracket sit on the chassis, two on the main rail , one on the front cross member and one on the bracket with the engine mount. New pic shows top frame and air cleaner bracket which bolts on.
