Forum Mods, (If this is in the wrong place, sorry but really looked everywhere and "Non-Land rover Technical" was the best I could find. Now for the post ;)

I have recently gone to NBN and as the "node" is only 20 metres from my house I have gone fiber not only to the house but have physically had the copper removed (and sold) and now have fiber throughout the house.

The Modem /router supplied by the ISP is a TPLINK 3600 dual band and it is crap!!!!!!!!! I have had to do a hard reset 6 times in the first month. I am looking for first hand experience or advice from someone I trust, IE: A land Rover owner on what sort of Modem / Router I should be looking at. Happy to spend $ as long as it works well. I connect via LAN 2 computers, one is a bog standard HP 16G RAM, i5 3.2Ghz, 8 TB hard drive and the other is a purpose built monster for gaming 32G RAM, i7 4.8Ghz, 4TB drive :p. Connecting via WiFi is 4 laptops, 2 tablets, 4 phones and 2 smart UHD TV's.

Thanks in advance for any advice given as I am struggling with finding anything really good with an Australian supplier and I don't want issues with power sourcing or NBN fiber cooking the router

I've no experience with that router, but as a general comment make sure you're running the latest firmware on it.

Steve.

Firmware is up to date, and it's the last update they are going to offer for that particular model

What's phone line copper worth these days? Resale value of what, 10 cents plus $300 labour to rip it out of the walls?

They paid me $200 to pull it out and keep it! Was as surprised as anyone I have spoken with about it

That the most preposterous price for 24 gauge wire I've ever heard. Coupled with the cheapest labour going.

I'm sitting on a gold mine!

I have had this brand before and never had an issue. Thought they were the equivalent of a Tojo but in the computer sand box rather than the 4WD park.

But.....my current modem is a Telstra Gateway and it causes me grief every day with its continual drop outs and then it shuts itself down and has to restart itself from scratch...time after time....again and again. Talk about frustrating and a time waster waiting for it to restart itself and then reconnect to the internet.:mad::mad:

I've used DD-WRT on dodgy out of date routers.

Not all router brands/models are supported by DD-WRT, but it seems that this one is.

DD-WRT for TPLink 3600 (https://wiseindy.com/it/installing-dd-wrt-on-tp-link-tl-wdr3600-n600/)

I say give it a go, can't hurt.
And you'll find a host of extra features, so it may involve a bit of readign up on stuff to get the most out of it.
