Trying a new method. Now that I am a balcony Gardner I have limited space. So instead of a large pot , I have a 100 x1000 mm storm water pipe as my pot and two plants grown from seed , found on the cutting board . Now growing quite well , better than anything tried when I had a normal garden. Maybe something for a Christmas salad ?

I tried growing from actual tomato seeds, and after several weeks of nothing, looked across the yard to see a healthy tom plant growing in amoungst a passionfruit vine!
I have no idea how it got there,, except Guiness is quite fond of tomatoes...

Out of interest I bought a couple of "upside down" tomato planters from Bunnings.
They are going OK.One had cucumbers in wich got frosted,so I poked a lateral off another tomato in there its going well.

My other tomatoes are doing better.
These are called "giant roma",not impressed, they seem to be very bushy,no flowers yet.

These are impressing the hell out of me,they are the same age as my other toms.I was given 4 spindly seedlings from a Banana plantation in Carnarvon. They are growing like the legendary bean stalk.

My tomatoes grow prolifically all year around. I just put old tomatoes in and they grow.

There is one small egg shaped fruit and a few flowers . So at least I can guess the seeds weren't from cherry tomatoes. Just wonder how big it will get once ripe ?
