They picked up right where they left off on their last season of TG. The Grand Tour was exactly as I expected it to be and then some... Plus they cut some fat!

It was good to see them back! :)

Piracy problems predicted.

These companies do it to themselves. I'm not going to say they deserve it, but they make it near impossible for people to legally watch with ease. They need to take a page out of Louis CK's book... While you might not like the guy, he's made all his content super easy to pay for and download. It won't stop all the pirating, but it will lessen the impact overall.

Wait until it's available on one of the subscription services in Aus, I guess...

You can watch it now legally by getting an Amazon Prime subscription, just be aware most of their other programs are geoblocked, even their own ones

Just go to Youtube Gav and type in the name of the show. There are plenty of "versions" of episode 1 on there - others will follow as they are released.

They are not full screen / HD and the sound quality is modified (reduced) apparently so that the posters can get around copyright issues. Must be legal to watch them though, otherwise Youtube would not allow them to be posted.

One example is in Slunnie's post a couple above yours.

It would appear that they've got rid of all of the other full clips of Episode 1 that were on Youtube as well. There was at least a dozen or so yesterday - none this morning.

From what I've read, Amazon is shooting itself in the foot at least as far as a potential Australian audience is concerned. We will be able to sign up for an Amazon Prime account in December and can watch The Grand Tour legally. What they don't tell you is that many (some reports say "most") of their other shows are geoblocked and cannot be viewed in Australia. So - my understanding is that you can fork out their subscription cost - to effectively watch one program a week for as long as the season lasts. If you want to watch other programs on Amazon that your subscription would normally cover, and those programs are geoblocked - stiff ****.

Hopefully what I've read is wrong (or my understanding of it is incorrect) - but if not, they won't be getting my money. There are other ways to watch a program if you really want to see it. :D

This is the issue I face with Motor Trend On Demand- likened to the 'netflix' for car guys. Something I'd definitely consider in addition to the netflix subscription I have.
The MTOD content is great, covering all motorsport and heaps of original series, but most live stuff is blocked to licensing restrictions due to deals with AU based media.

I'd jump at watching Grand tour on a pay per view arrangement, but it doesn't take long for a few '$13 per month' subscriptions to be underutilized or get out of hand.

Sounds like another example of the reasons why so many Australians are into piracy of shows they are blocked from getting legally.

Yep - I thought the same. The Grand Tour came across as the three of them taking up where they left off ............... except that they had a bit of difficulty in getting their celebrity guests onto the stage. :o

Top Gear with that idiot Evans hosting it was a dead loss - some say it may improve with him gone and Matt LeBlanc taking over the reins, but I'm not holding my breath. ;)

Yeah Evans is annoying. LeBlanc is ok but I find him a bit dry and monotone.

Yep - I thought the same. The Grand Tour came across as the three of them taking up where they left off ............... except that they had a bit of difficulty in getting their celebrity guests onto the stage. :o

Clarkson & Andy Wilman sold the right to most of the Top Gear format to the BBC back in 2012 (for more money than the GDP of some countries it is rumoured), so a lot of the Top Gear features & format are off limits to them now. This was because Clarkson & Wilman were making mad stacks of money from licensing and May & Hammond were being left out as they were not part of the production company. The BBC already owned 50% of their company, Bedder6, so when all the hosts' contracts were renewed the remaining 50% of that company was sold to the beeb putting all presenters on roughly similar contracts.

Some of the things that have been reported to be protected parts of the Top Gear format include:
- Having the show in a static location (hence the Grand Tour's mobile tent format)
- The Stig (we will probably be stuck with the overly talkative American for some time)
- Star in a reasonably priced car (it is possible that the whole celebrity interview segment is also protected so now the Grand Tour has fun just killing them off before they get into the studio).
- The cool wall (although this was quietly dropped several series ago)

It is likely as time goes on we will learn what else they have been legally prevented from doing. Probably by omission or just through obviously careful wording -and on that "major disappointment" (bombshell) it's time to end, for example.

The loss of most of the format is not actually a real loss since it has freed them up to fully refresh the show, and they now have more money than God so I don't feel sorry for them.

But I am not sure why Ben Collins was not chosen as their new Stig, since he doesn't have any love for the BBC. They have also used him for one of their Top Gear Live segments (see below).

If it's the clip I linked above, that was done for one of the Clarkson, Hammond & May live shows but it has been posted on their Grand Tour Youtube channel. No Ben Collins involvement in TGT as far as I know.

Hello everyone
Show two of the Grand Tour is very car light. And that happens again in the Barbados film later in the series. We do this on purpose to entertain the countless people who invariably say, when I sit next to them at a party, "I like your show but why do you put cars on it?"

Hide you eyes LR fans as in the afore-metioned Barbados episode they sink a Series Landy as an artificial reef! EDIT Also disturbing is in yesterday's replay they took the bodies off 3 D-3's and turned the chassis into "Eco" cars made of meat, mud and a hedge, in another show Clarkson uses a D-1 chassis to mount a MG sports car body on and then later changes that to a Mercedes sports car as the wheelbase is a better match.

In the very latest, S02, Ep 04, they have the end of year awards: There was the Nigel ( their name ) for the "Hard Ass to Follow" award for the worst looking rear end. Nominated were the Civic Type R, the Toyota CH-R ( don't think we get that one ), but the winner was the Land Rover Discovery. They go on to poke fun at Gerry McGovern.

They do have a point.
