Multiple reverse cameras

I've basically finished the install of extra cameras, with only some wires to tuck away. I have auto-switching from the surround camera system to the van camera when reversing with the van connected and manual selection of the van camera or a camera mounted under the upper tail-gate to be able to see the tow-ball. Manual camera selection is by a small rocker switch mounted in the cup holder. The video feed between the surround camera and the monitor is intercepted using a video switch, allowing the other cameras to be selected instead as required. The van reverse signal is returned by the van's plug on a previously-unused pin. I had allowed for auto-selection of the ball camera for reversing but didn't implement that feature because the ball camera doesn't have as wide a view and manual selection if required is always available.

The van camera uses a digital wireless system with the receiver mounted horizontally underneath the top of the plastic cover at the bottom of the upper tailgate, which has a clear path through the glass. The camera is mounted high just below the centre clearance light and can see all across the bottom of the van, with the transmitter mounted directly inside and powered by the clearance lights. As I have DRLs activated, the clearance lights are always powered when the engine is running.

This is similar to what I am planning for the D4 Graeme, although I had read that wireless cameras were not up to scratch, particularly in terms of reliability and also possible resolution.
Which wireless camera did you go with?

Interception via "video switch" .... is this a special type of switch that is required in addition to the rocker switch?

I opted for a digital wireless system hoping to avoid the reported poor performance of cheaper wireless systems. However the transmission is affected by the Redarc Tow-Pro whilst the brakes are applied unless the Tow-Pro's sensitivity is turned right back to minimum. I'm pursuing both the wireless system provider and Redarc but very early days yet, with some earths to check and checking the Tow-Pro o/p with an oscilloscope for stray frequencies. I really don't want to run a cable from the camera down to underneath, preferring to settle for a low mounted camera or perhaps putting the receiver down the front of the van and run a cable to the car.

The video switch is a simple dual relay unit that I designed. 10 pcbs only cost $22 (I have a few surplus to requirements!) then the relays and RCA sockets sourced from Jaycar and a Facra link cable ex ebay. I picked-up power for the manual switch from the surround camera supply and earth for the relays too.

Edit: Redarc suggest a bad earth for the brakes causing the interference. The Alko stability system was added for the previous owner and there's a bundle of electrical tape around some brake wires so I'll unwrap that bundle to see what's inside.

A four channel version would also provide for additional cameras too.

Think I'll stick with wired camera at this stage based on your experience to date.

With 2 extra cameras I needed more than one switch. My switch's off position is to use the original surround camera system.
