I was told today that maxxis bighorns have been discontinued in 255/85-16.
The same may also have happened with BFG by the looks?
What is everyone else fitting instead?

The BFG KO2 is still available in that 255/85-16. I just fitted 235/85-16s and I love them.

While you are talking tyre sizes, is there a chart or info giving the rolling diameter of each size?
I get confused on all these sizes . 7.50-16, 700-16, 205R-16, 237-75-16, etc etc. What diameter are they all as some people talk of 35,s 33,s etc as well.

Diameter for example 255/85/16 is calculated by rim first, (16") convert that to mm, then add 85% of 255 twice. that will be the overall diameter.

to be clear are you after diameter or rolling circumference?

255 85 16s are a good size for those wanting a "close to original" size as the Hi-Milers on the RFSVs.
Also a very useful size for turbo'd 4BD1s, gives them noticeably longer legs.
I've just fitted BFG MT 235 85 16s to mine on tubeless rims, I bought them with the bonus ARB compressor (obviously not needed for the RFSV but useful anyway).
 - it is now a bit easier to climb into :)

The old type imperial tyre sizes (7.50 etc) you just multiply by 2 and add the rim diameter.
e.g. 7.50*2 = 15" + 16" = 31" diameter
a 7.50 in P-Metric would be 191/100-16
i.e 191 mm wide, 100% of that is also sidewall height

The BFG KO2 is still available in that 255/85-16.
Are you sure? They only ever did the KM2 in the past, and I can't find them on tirerack.com. Also, can't find either KM2 or KO2 in 255/85R16 on the BFG website, so looks like no more BFG MTs in that size either.

Isuzurover, the imperial where a rough guide, some where close but others where way out, perfect example is the Michelin 9.00 r16 that are actually 255/100 or 36.4 inches not 34!

I ordered some 255 bfg MTs today. They are supposed to be in stock.
Frantic yes that was a rough guide. Offroad pattern tyres are larger. E.g. 7.50 muds are 32" typically. In the original spec there are 2 different diameters for highway and off highway pattern tyres.

Tyres fitted today. I can recommend Bob Jane Cannington if you are after BFGs.
Get in now while they still exist...
The 255s that is...

Same nod for Bob Jane Haberfield. I would have liked 245/85-16 but I don't think there ever was such a thing.
Does anyone know why 255s are being discontinued, or how we know they're going?

Not appearing on the BFG website, or other retailers where they usually appear was a good sign for me.

Pity - if true.
The 255's could give you almost 1" extra clearance under the axles/diffs.

That's funny KM2 255/85R16s are there when I look. Second on the list. I had to triple check to be sure. It is confusing when they put two 16" sizes ahead of the 15" sizes.
255/85R16 has gone for KO2 though. Was there two weeks ago.

That's weird - when you go to their tyre selector page (4x4 Tyres | Tyre Selector | BFGoodrich Tires Australia & New Zealand (http://www.bfgoodrich.com.au/tyre-selector/)) and choose 255, they then only show 55 or 70.
I wouldn't mind betting they haven't updated either one of the pages...

Yes that is weird. Those who have them already are lucky.

Maxxis are still producing them, just seems to have been dropped from AU.

I got my set of 255/85 KM2s about 3 months ago. I wanted the Maxxis but was advised they no longer make them in that size.
Dick Cepek extreme country also come in 255/85

I think a lot of people go with BFGs due to better availability (despite 255s being a bit of a rare size). Wonder how the Dick Cepeks are for availability?
