Hi All. I have a set of (airbag compliant) sheepskin seat covers which I'm in the process of fitting to the front seats of my D4. When fitting, there are four straps which I need to feed through the gap between the squab and the back rest. These clip to longer straps which come back from the front of the squab and another set which come down the rear of the back rest. I've fitted these covers on previous cars with no trouble. Even a D3.

On the passenger side, I had no trouble. But on the driver's seat I cannot feed the four straps through as there are two metal rods which seal the gap.

Now, I can see from searching the forum, lots of you have seat covers fitted. My question is are there other seat covers which do not need to be secured in this manner?

I may be just tired and cant see the obvious. :D

Sorry I am not much help as mine were fitted for me as part of the deal.

Try adjusting the lumbar support,it may be closing the gap up.

Make sure your seats lowered too, (squab), this may not be helping either if you have it raised for driving.

As an aside Pete (?), where'd you get your sheep skins from?

Hi Chops, I purchased mine from Prestige in WA following the recommendation of several others on the forum. Not cheap, but excellent seat covers and fantastic service from Prestige.

They even do a very nice LR Logo embroided into the covers.

They look good but I suffer from a horrid rash on the back of the legs from wool. :(
I will look at their other materials though as the leather seats may get real hot during the Summer.

Hi Chops,

I bought our sheep Skin covers from Mini Jumbuck in Narracorte South Australia. (1800 088 834) This was in 2010. They were $500 for the pair plus $10 shipping. They have a really plush wool pile and are fully lined inside so no chaffing on the leather seats.

I've just had a look at their website and there is no mention of car seat covers as a standard line. It may be worth giving them a call to see if they still sell them.

I just picked up some custom fit D4 canvas ones on Saturday. Will let you know how they go... Mostly for up north trips though.

Waterproof, soft feel.. I only have them on the back seats for the dogs.

I have the sheepskin covers from Prestige in Perth in my D4 as well. They fitted them for me, but I was standing next to the car while the covers were being fitted, and don't remember them having any difficulty with the installation. Turned out to be a wise move for me, as I learned how to remove the rear head rests that day - up until then I didn't have a bloody clue how to get them out. :D

Bloody good quality covers - I also had sheepskin covers from Prestige in the front of the D2, and as far as I am aware, they are still in it and still in good condition. :D

Thanks for the advice. I tried all settings of the lumber support and squab height but I still had those two bars blocking the gap. I've spent many frustratinghours on this job.

In the end, my wife came up with the solution. She decided she didn't like the covers anyway!

Where from? - Thoughts?

I've attempted to get some via 4x4 Direct in Melbourne.

CUSTOM 12oz CANVAS HEAVY DUTY SEAT COVERS FULL CAR PACK LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CUSTOM-12oz-CANVAS-HEAVY-DUTY-SEAT-COVERS-FULL-CAR-PACK-LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-4-/302042761895?hash=item465326caa7)

However after paying for them, I discovered that they don't source them from the manufacturer who's images or YouTube video showing the airbag deployment, are sourced from. So basically I'm completely in the dark as to what should show up. I asked for a refund based on this and it has been quite rudely and offensively refused. They have since informed me of who they will source them from, and they don't list my car as one they know (D4 SE).

So at the moment, he is waiting on me to supply 3-4 photos of each seat in the front and middle row before he orders the covers, and I'm trying to get a refund. Fair trading Vic agrees that it appears that 4x4 Direct is being misleading, but my only avenue is via the courts. (After discussing the covers on the phone, he emailed me an invoice directly, which I paid by DD as a small discount was offered. I should have purchased through Ebay/PayPal which would have offered me protection.)

In the meantime I'm in the market for a set of custom fit canvas seat covers and am keen for feedback from others.

I'd tell you how good quality they are but I'm yet to fit them and bought from Gumtree.

Just been through them all and the only defect i can find is one valcro strap needs re stitching, last owner might have been a bit rough removing them though, easy fix anyway.

Just did a Google, they're in Perth, Welshpool.

I've heard that people get results when they post their experience on the merchant's facebook page. Might be worth a try.

I once had a Landcruiser work vehicle fitted with canvas seat covers. It was parked in the sun outside the gold room at the Granites Gold Mine one afternoon, and I jumped in it to drive up to the camp. I was wearing shorts and singlet (back in the days before long trousers / shirts became compulsory on mine sites).

Long story short, I ended up off work with third degree burns on the back of my legs, and second degree burns on my upper back.

I have never since had canvas seat covers in any vehicle. I have been provided with other company vehicles since with canvas seat covers - the very first thing I do is pull them out and put them in storage, to be re-fitted only when I am about to hand the vehicle back. For work vehicles, I usually go to K-mart and buy a set of their cheap wool seat covers. When they get dirty / worn, I throw them out and buy another set if I end up keeping the vehicle long enough.

I wouldn't fit canvas seat covers to my own vehicle even if they were the best on the market, and they were given to me free of charge. ;)

Had a similar problem trying to fit my seat covers. I used a bit of wire between the metal rods on the drivers seat to pull the straps through the gap.

Same BMKal. All my mine vehicles had the Canvas covers removed until I handed it back.

How does the red dust go with sweat on the leather? I was going off assumptions it would stain

Why so hot? I thought that being canvas they would be cool. That's one of the reasons for the seat covers in the first place. The black leather is painfully hot. I would have gone sheepskin which is what I've used in the past, but the kids are getting old enough now to question why the front row gets the good stuff and they get the well um Kmart solution... Which of course doesn't work in the Disco with the three separate seats in the middle row. Custom Sheepskin for both rows $$$$

Did that, but it sits with others in a similar vein. Too bad no one reads them till its all gone pear shaped...

As the ad was directed at Disco 4 owners I thought I'd mention it here.

Sheepskin has been my preferred choice ever since I got my bum burned on canvas years ago. Even cheap sheepskin from Kmart for work vehicles (throw them out when they get dirty or worn).

I'll tell you from experience - canvas seat covers are definitely not "cool". Certainly the ones that are commonly fitted to mining and other work vehicles aren't anyway - and I would never waste my money trying any other canvas products. ;)

Black leather - well I guess it depends on what vehicle you are talking about and what is the quality of the leather. As LandyAndy has mentioned earlier in this post, and I have also discovered from experienced (and was quite surprised by this) - the black leather seats in the D4 do not get hot, even when the vehicle is left out in direct sunlight on a hot day. Mine has black leather, and it was probably 3 or 4 months before I got the sheepskin covers in it - never ever had any issues with the leather seats getting hot. ;)

Part of this lack of heat is the Opticool glass which does a magnificent job of keeping the dashboard and seating cooler

Obviously not all D4's are the same. Mine is a white one with dark tinted windows. The back seats aren't too bad but when the sun beams through the original LR windscreen, oh boy, fry an egg on those front seats. To the extent that now the weather's warmed up, the location of the sun dictates where and how the car is parked. Never facing north.

Summer in the Pilbara, I'm glad my D3 has cloth seats and not leather!

Interestingly I have never seen a baby placed on the floor on a piece of leather or a piece of canvas...

To each their own, but I will continue to use sheepskin as my choice of seat covering for very similar reasons to Brian.
