Not sure why it took me so long to do this, but today I removed the clutch drain plug.
Wasn't sure if I'd be covered in oil or water, or nothing!
As it was, about 40ml of oil came out, no big deal.

And the plug will not go back in until the next water crossing.

That oil looks a bit dark, do you reckon it's engine or gearbox oil. You may be up for a new rear main seal!
Even that small amount of oil will get blown around in the housing by the windmill effect of the ring gear and clutch turning and end up stuffing the clutch plate and rubber boot on the slave cylinder pushrod. Definitely a good idea to leave the wading plug out unless you are doing deep water or mud. And it also alerts you to the start of any oil leaks in there before the oil does any damage.

That was almost nasty!

Engine oil or clutch fluid?

Engine oil. Will watch for a while as the build up is 2 years old, or older. Who knows when the army last pulled the plug out, and I've had the vehicle for 2 years.
