The Asparagus patch. The shoots get pretty tough very quickly once it gets hot.The trick now is to water and feed the crowns up during summer. The ferns die off in winter and shoot again in spring.During the season we get 2 to 3 handfuls of spears per day:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

Zuchini. One can never have enough of the stuff,we are eating plenty of baby size zucchinis sauted in butter with garlic at the moment,MMMMMMMMM.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/12/607.jpg (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/LandyAndy_2006/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-12/20161211_170408_zpsflthcpz8.jpg.html)

Spuds. These very active tub are a heirloom variety. They are quite small, shaped more like a sweet potatoe, dark purple and quite nutty in flavour. The bed self generates every year after the frosts have finished.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/12/608.jpg (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/LandyAndy_2006/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-12/20161211_170444_zpspvfegnx5.jpg.html)

Something quirky.Hops, these are cascade.I bought the rizomes 3 years ago, they haven't done much at all. This year is the best yet, this is the better of the 2 lots.I grew them to throw in my homebrew.Could have spare flowers/cones for WA folk this year.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/12/609.jpg (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/LandyAndy_2006/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-12/20161211_170239_zps25cenwlr.jpg.html)

Last of all,my olives have finished flowering.Looks like they have set lots of fruit, should be a bumper harvest come easter time.

They all look very healthy Andrew, a credit to you. How do you get time to look after them. I love my vegie garden also but due to lack of time I haven't done anything in it for 2 years now.

The raised beds to start with,I have a stuffed back, and cant bend over much to pull the weeds.Makes the growing of vegies so much easier for me.Quite often in the mornings I will start the work ute and weed one bed to give the chooks some fresh greens before I head off.
Retic is the other answer.run it in the middle of the nite, the plants have the moisture in the beds ready on a hot day.I cant match it hand watering in summer.
Mulching.I get mountains of straw delivered by the gardeners on the crew, they have to tidy up after sheep shows at the pavilion,I use as much as they can give me.My beds are full of composting worms that eat the straw as fast as I can pile it on,cuts evaporation too.
Finally, its a passion of mine,I would rather spend time talking to my vegies than the tossers at the pub;);););););););).It is an escape from reality I guess,my own created world.

Even tho your using raised beds, this year was a good season... We have lots of subsoil moisture and the paddock is still green down here, with knee high clover to boot...

Did you find your regrowth started early in the middle of winter? I did, and my horses fattened up early, even tb mare had weight on(maybe next year she'll go to horse heaven, but she has a reprieve this year(30 yo))

Very nice Andrew

You'll have to set up a small parking lot stall, behind the Woolshed, to sell surplus :D:D:D

Cheers

 I thought you drowned all your worms in the bathtub the other year

They did.Now have billions of them,a new worm farm, plus they are everywhere in the garden. They breed up very quickly if they get the right conditions.
I also bought a commercial mulcher,I use it to turn all our waste cardboard and paper products into pulp. The worms love the stuff.

I don't have much surplus Steve.
We give a fair amount away and anything that gets too big or goes to seed gets converted into bum nuts.

Had a big weekend in the vegie patch, the olde back is telling me all about it.
Saturday was the big effort day,and it got to 40degC.
I opened up the compost heap.Piled a heap of spent plants that would be too hard to but thru the mulcher,a tomato bush, the zucchini plants, the spaghetti squash, runners from the strawberry bed and trimmed off butternut pumpkin vines. The mulcher got a run, blasted all the corn plants, giant zucchinis, rotten spaghetti squash and overgrown beetroot into pulp, onto the compost heap.I then piled the used straw mulch from the vacated beds on the compost heap as it is full of slaters, mowed the lawn put the clippings on top then watered it up and put the plastic over it.
I was over it for the day but soldiered on,drilled and rotary hoed the beds with my new garden augers, they are awesome.
Today was the easy bit, planted 3 punnets of beetroot,2 punnets of lettuce,2 punnets of corn,1 punnet of cucumber. Also made a second large tub with 2 tomato plants in,an experiment, much too late to plant tomatos here, the idea is get them up and running then put them in the hot house for winter.Never tried before, but considered it often.Ive got 2 large tubs, one has 2 roma tomato, the other 2 gross lisse.
No pics this time.See how I go next weekend.
Got 2 beds ready for more broccoli/cauli.Already got 2 lots of broccoli and 1 of cauli in,waiting another week to get some harvest space later.
I'm sore,but enjoyed my weekend.

Ive got rid of a few finished summer vegies, new vegies planted.

Tomatoes for winter,an experiment. These will go in the hot house when the weather cools.

Passionfruit Vine. Will need to cover it for winter, they don't like frost.

Beetroot.Lost a few seedlings in here, bloody slaters, will get some replacements to yop the bed up.The blue stuff isn't Viagra.Baysol snail pellets, they kill slaters but you can only use them on crops you aren't eating at the moment due to the withholding period.
