Just something you might want to check on your 300 next time your under the bonnet. I was driving the work one morning a few weeks back and the engine had a momentary miss, I figured it was just something minor and continued, a kilometre or so later the oil pressure light dimly came on, then the water temp went to zero. I rolled down hill into a parking spot and the engine wouldn't turn off. I checked oil and water, was all good so I continue used to work.

Oil light was solid on after a short while and a had to stall it to shut down. I mused the earth strap must have failed, but that was still there. I started at the oil pressure sensor and worked back along the wiring, I heard what sounded like scratching then some sparks!! Quickly disconnected battery.

So turns out the engine wiring loom is worn right through against the engine, so oil pressure sensor, water temp, fuel solenoid, alternator output and control wires. The worn bit is under the air filter bracket against the engine block, it rubs its way against the block over the last 420000 kms and one day poof! Oh yeah, it's Impossible to see in there, so careful not to electrocute yourself feeling your way around, maybe disconnect battery.

Hope this little story saves someone some heartache

I noticed the same thing with the wiring loom (alternator feed) that is behind the water pump. I've added extra loom covering.
