Front shock dent Question

So every time I climb under my SWB I see my front shocks are dented. I'm trying to figure out how. The leading edge of the tube is dented in - looks to be the axle has hit both of them. So I'm 99% confident that yes the axle has done the damage BUT the real question is how? I dont remember them being dented when I re-fitted them, but I can't be 100% sure.

With the 200tdi's power do you think it is possible that the springs are wrapping enough to let the 2 clash???? OR is it more likely that the shocks were already damaged when I re-fitted, possible from sheared pins on the axle?

Same thing here, original 2.25 engine in my SIII, new progressive springs, original front axle and plates etc. The shocks are far from new and have witness marks on them where the shocks seems come into contact with the flange union between the axle and the swivel housing, leaving a small dent.

I didn't swap the springs so no idea if it was an issue before or not.

As the shocks are a bit old was thinking of replacing them with units that have slightly thinner tubes, gas shocks are apparently better for progressive springs and a bit more slimline. Shifting the bottom shock bracket 1/4" aft would solve it but the locating pin won't let it come any further back.

Be interested to hear what anyone thinks...

interesting.... this looks more like the whole axle casing is hitting the shock....

Think I've worked this one out. The bottom shock plates that go under the springs and hold the bottom of the shocks are different sizes. One pair is about 90mm long the other pair is about 110mm long and reinforced on the sides. The longer plates go on the front axle ands the shorties on the back. Somehow, somewhere in the past mine got put on the wrong way around, result, dented shocks. Swap them back over, no dented shocks...

Well bugger me... I've been scratching my head over this one.

I've checked the parts manual, mine are around the wrong way as well.
