I have constant petrol fumes made worse of course when i fill up. Do I need to replace the pipe running from fill hole to tank? Tank has been out at some stage I noticed. Can anyone advise what to do please? Hideous smell and arrive lightheaded! Not good.

What? at least it is not illegal.....for the moment.

At least you will have a good excuse if you knock a copper over https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Does it get wet when you fill up??
If you fill right up to the top, does it leak inside??
If the answer is no to the above then I would suggest that it is okay, if yes then replace it

there will either be a leak somewhere.....or a split hose.....
or a hose has fallen off the fuel system somewhere....
next time you fill it up have a good look around to see if anything is wet....
should indicate if you have a leak.....

Remove your seat when filling up & observe. Could be either end of either hose, or gaskets on top of tank for filler neck & sender. Could also be a leaking seam in the tank, but until you check it, you won't know.
Check the security of all hose clamps.

As 4bee says, check where it is leaking. Most likely is the filler hose is leaking, but the hose on the vent from tank to filler neck is also suspect. In my case one problem was the fuel guage sender being loose.
It could be the filler hose clamp is simply loose at one end but could also be the hose itself has gone porous.

G'day Pup https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Look for signs of fuel stains around the fuel line to tank pickup at the connection, as these will vibrate loose or the pipe may have a crack in it very close to the connection, also check the large filler pipe & breather pipe, also look for stains on this filler pipe behind the seat, if possible get someone to fill some fuel with a Jerry can while you have the seat back forward, and/or the seatbase fuel tank cover removed, if items or tools have been stored behind the seats they will often rub through the filler pipe, and the holes only show when filling up :?

are you sure you are poking the filler nozzle into the tank and not into the cabin?
is it a petrol or diesel?

Hi Pup
If its a later Ser3(pollution control equip) and there are no obvious leaks there is a small purge tank(5 lts capacity or so) fitted on the left hand side of the vehicle, its another source of hoses that could be leaking. On a ute model its located up high behind the seat bulkhead on the lhs under the vehicle.
