Happy 2017 all

This week I finally got around to rebuilding the alloy tray on the 130
When I bought it, the aluminium tray had been lifted to slide two spares
Down the centre.

I was not super satisfied with the chincy 100x50 zed purlin tray rails and their chassis mounts And wanted to also include water and diesel tanks (losing one spare)

So now it is all but done, replaced the rails with 150x65 Al channel, put in a 70L diesel with extra fuel filter and 70L water tank. Tanks and spare sit on an epoxy glassed ply board and I played with the chassis mounts to provide flexibility but strength.

I have used wipac led fittings for brakes and indicators - these are great and very LR ;)
I want great reverse light coverage so grabbed a pair of slim line led fittings (only one fitted at moment)

But now I just don't like the finished look maybe I should change em up to 95mm led defender reverse lights
But what do y'all think????

Thanks Weeds
Just needed confirmation
Might even throw on the old incandescent while waiting for the led to arrive

If the slimline one throw good light than maybe mount them up under the tray with a separate switch so they don't stand out too much but you can flick them on when needed.

I do like to classic look of round lights

Hi,
I put 2 led work lights at the back of mine for reverse. The give almost as much light as the headlamp low beam.
I crossed them over to give more spread to each side.
Cheers.

Soon I'll be replacing my rectangular original lights on my acquired Toyota tray

I have the Wipac LED kit here, but went with the orange and red covers. I just thought they looked a bit more original.

Anyway, I think yours look fine, but I'm with Weeds - I'd prefer round reverse lights.

Very interested in your tray mounts. I've currently got steel sheet folded into c channel, high enough to fit 255/85/R16 spares underneath. I'm about to reconfigure it to hopefully have a slide out tray, inside an air-tight 'cavity' with the tray mounted on top. Weight and strength are always the concerns, but with a bit of luck I'll overcome them.

Would love to see some more photos, particularly of the purlin tray rails and their chassis mounts if you can.

Steve, I was going gong to install something like these on the 130 to replace the square OE one. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/01/1104.jpg LED Autolamps was the brand, I think it was 109mm in diameter?

So tray is a triple M standard ally panels that clip together with steel angle around the periphery. When I bought ute off another member it had two longitudinal zed purlins 150x50x2.6 - front mounts were onto rangie engine mounts rear was hard bolted to rear cross member. Rails were about 900mm apart and a pair of 265/75 could slide in down the middle

I changed up the tray rails to Al structural channel as seen in picture
Kept front mount flexible but made up an M16 bolt post to the rear chassis member

Will post some pics below

Front chassis mounts - as has been posted on AULRO to help prevent chassis mount cracks tying starboard and port rails together behind the cab helps greatly

Rear mount for tray rails - M16HT post fully welded into the corner gusset between rear cross member and chassis rails. Thin piece of insertion rubber between steel and Al to take up any misalignment and slow corrosion

I've got ?100mm incandescent (aircraft landing type) fitted to the top corners of my canopy. They allow me to see everything I need to when reversing, with the bonus that I can see onto or behind a trailer I might have attached. You could achieve the same by adding your new rounds to the top of your dog box.

Attached is basically what I want to do with mine. Still haven't decided on the bearings/slides, or the material to use for the tray. I found this - https://panelmate.com.au/collections/panels - figuring it my be light, strong and durable. If it doesn't work out, good old ply with be my go to material.

The idea is to store the spare at the front, as access will be infrequent (hopefully!) and will keep the weight in close, lowering the leverage force on the slide.

This would also serve as a cooking platform, and storage repository for typical Land Rover spares (never enough room though!), amongst other things.

I contemplated the exact same design with then rear quarter tanks for Diego and water
I changed back as the fuel and water would have put >150kg behind the centreline of tray
My rails were specced though to take a draw like you have drawn

My thought was build it as I already have , 1800mm long draw slides attached to Al channel
Fold up a draw in aluminium with a lid that drops into s sealing lip with some clamps to keep it water tight???
