I will be fitting Detroit diff locks to the rear 2 axles of my landy as recommended by Bearman, 4WD systems in Adelaide have a great write up on their webpage explaining how a mechanical locker works vs an air or E locker.
The question I have been thinking about is if you are driving down a steep slope using the engine as a brake will the mechanical locker unlock because a force working on the wheel is trying to turn it faster than the engine, like going round a corner? Any locker gurus out there advice will be appreciated.

This is into a 6 wheeler... I think you'll find Detroit (unlocker style) in both rears will result in enormous wear of your rear tyres.
I'd be recommending alternative lockers (selectable) at minimum on the forward axle..
You could then if you wished get away with an Un-locker on the rear most diff..
From personal experience the best lockers are selectable - there are plenty of reasons to not be locked; side slopes being one of them.. and the heavier the rig the more pronounced the impact.

Mike is on the money imo;)
There is plenty a argument on how and what is better:)
Those that have any brand or form of locker will swear by them simply because they spent their own money on them so they have to be good:angel:
In my opinion a selectable is the only way to go and yes i run air lockers which works very well for me on several fronts .
Ect ..
I select my rear locker a lot when travelling down very steep uneven hills
My compressor is hard mounted so no need to pack one.
I have mine wired up so i can select which one (locker) i want (need) at any given time .
I also have a 18 ltr air tank plumbed in which is useful at blowing filters out pumping tyres ect.
I have a air fitting mounted at the front with a hose that will reach the spare on the rear door extension on in the camper if i need to pump its tyres.
I always look at a track and make the call lockers in or out at my discretion .
In saying this many a person with auto lockers would not have a problem it would be a small percentage that get into a situation where a manual locker would be better.
So really it is cost in my opinion why a lot choose the auto set up:angel:

I been deliberating for a while now its an ex-army 6x6 so very basic machine no computer, traction control etc which I like, just basic systems so mech lockers follows the same theme no wiring, lines or pumps to fail, will have to think a bit more about it, I was going to hard mount a compressor and tanks anyway so airlockers maybe the go, just need to find some at the same ratio.

If I may ask, are you running the original 4.7 ratios or will you be changing the ratio?

Ratio has nothing to do with lockers. You fit them in your existing diffs.
