Hi All,

I'm considering selling my 6x17"steel rims and buying one 18" to give me 6 for touring. With the availability of good tyres at 18" and the pain to change over I'm not sure I need the 17"set any more.

I've done a bit of searching but haven't seen any thing. Does anyone know where the best place to get one is?

Gumtree is pretty good.
Keep an eye on the AULRO markets,or better still place a wanted add there.

As Andy said. There was a set on Gumtree 2 weeks ago price was a bit steep though at $800. I bought another set 2 weeks prior to that for $200 so there's some bargains out there. Keep an eye out.

I'd be calling this guy to see if they are 18s if so $600 is a bargain. If they're late model D3 wheels theu are the exact same as D4 ones..

Thanks guys. I'll keep an eye on gum tree. On there daily looking for a SUP for my wife, so easy to search further.

NB: I'm only looking for one wheel and it needs to match the existing wheels.

Why not just keep one of the 17" as your spare with an appropriate sized tyre to match the size of the tyres on your 18" rims.

I am doing the opposite - I current have 18" all round and need mud tyres for some BMW 17" rims I have - I will keep my 18" spare and get the 17" tyres to match their size - for remote areas I will just take two of my 18" rims and tyres as backups - they are ATs so suitable for offroad use.

It's a thought. However I'd be keen, for pure aesthetic reasons, to find a matching rim. Will have them mount on a twin rear wheel carrier. I could get covers.......

I paid $315 landed in Darwin in late 2015 for a sixth matching rim for my HSE.

Shipping from Sydney to Perth would be worth checking out but you could make an offer a bit less than the buy it now price.

TRS in Adelaide may have one cheaper than that. I think they reopen next Monday.

Still worth checking if the set in Perth are the same pattern you are looking for. They usually sell for about $150-$200 each individually so you could buy the set and repost 3 of them individually on gumtree to get all your money back. Which is exactly what the guy on Ebay is doing(There's a set in the photo yet selling 1 only with 2 already sold).

Not to mention you can pickup tomorrow, for free...

I'd also only offer him $400-$500 for the lot....

Besides, who doesn't want 2 sets of tyres for their 4x4, one for mud=D.

Would also be very careful buying either wheel on top(from ebay link). It's possibly buckled with that amount of gutter rash. Wouldn't buy that without seeing it being spun up or checked by tyre shop.

No good if you intend rotating the spares to the vehicle.

I am doing something similar, going to go from the 17's i have, to the stock new 18's i have under the house.Sold the almost new OEM 18' P rated tyres to a member on here, will be fitting the 18" rims with LT KO2's,265/60/18.

For remote area travel i will take an 18" carcass.

Its only a cosmetic thing if you have the right size tyres ;)

What about legalities????
I have a spare off my sons XR6 in the shed with 80kmh warning stickers.
The tyre is rated the same as the others, its almost as wide and obviously the same diameter.

Not following - you are talking about a space saver tyre.

While not advisable there is no reason why you cannot put a D3 17" wheel on a D3 with 18" wheels as long the tyres are the same rolling diameter and ideally the same type and width. Nothing illegal.

But I agree - I was really talking about using the 17s in an emergency as I thought the OP was about as he indicated he wanted to have 6 wheels/tyres all up when travelling.

Anyway all that is off topic.

Cheers

Buying a set and re selling is a great idea, thanks.

The guy selling the set on Gum Tree has a second add with a set of Disco wheels with photos (not the rim I'm after) in the 'other items from this seller' section. I've messaged him to see if he has two sets or it's a duplicate add. I'll let you know.

Good advice. I noted the 'rash' and was concerned.

Give Steve at Lifestyle 4WD in Morley a call. ;)

He had a set of 5 of that wheel style for sale with tyres a while back. They are probably gone by now, but there's a good chance that he might know where to get hold of another.
