Battery set up in front of main battery

Gday All,


I see on the traxide site there are D4 kits that fit the battery in front of the main battery , I don't have a D4 but my D3 has room enough but there are some earth wires running to a couple of earth studs in that area. Just wondering what / how they are run or moved too with the battery tucked in there.


I am looking at the option of running 2 Aux batteries, so 1 in front of the main battery .

Ean.
I went D3 setup with mine,with the thought of a second aux later.
Pretty sure you get a earth plate with the D4 kit to sort those earths.

After installing mine the other week, you actually add to the earth point. The battery and tray clear it. The only thing you need to do is run the small loom under the tray. You maybe able to see from the pic.

Thanks for the pic, bit hard to see but I will work it out. I am a bit reluctant to run the existing cable between the battery and the battery box of the main battery. I may look at a earth bar and run it along the top edge of the battery. I originally tried to run it under where a tray would sit but its to taunt .

I would not leave those looms to run under the tray without significant additional abrasion protection after my experience shorting a cable to the body that was rubbed through on the sharp tray edge.

Running the larger loom between aux battery and main battery compartment has worked well for me. See photo for how it was mounted.
Holes were drilled into the battery box to make use of the factory clips in the loom. Clips were inserted with a bit of silicon for sealing.

The smaller of the two looms (not shown) was shifted out of the way to the left of this photo and tied to another factory loom.
It is the unused fuel burning heater loom that includes two plugs with blanking plates.
It could have also been run along the battery box but that looked a bit congested (small gap to aux battery).

The other loose cable in the photo is just the UHF aerial cable that was run at the same time as Traxide.

From Tim's installation instruction, which are very detailed. You simply connect the earth lead from your aux battery to the top earth post on the side of the engine bay. Plenty of room for this as shown in DI5CO's photo.

If you do need additional earth posts (for other accessories such as winch etc) - Tim can also supply a stainless steel earth plate with additional posts - it simply bolts onto the existing posts in the engine bay and gives you more options.

I have exactly the same installation as DI5CO has shown in his photo, and there is plenty of room to access the earth posts with the Yellow Top battery installed.

I have also re-located the original wiring looms in this area to run across the front of the OEM battery box, rather than under the aux. battery tray, as shown in Scott's photo. It's easy to do and actually makes installation of the aux. battery tray easier.

If you go on the traxide website all the costs are there. Traxide kits are DIY but he has very good instructions and all components are cut to size so it's all run the cables and join the plugs and bobs Ya fathers brother.

There are other options but traxide kits for my money are the way to go, plus he is a member on here and is always ready to help out.

I definitely recommmend paying close attention to protecting all wiring from abrasion when installing the Traxide battery tray in front of the cranking battery. That tray has really sharp edges.

I did a bit of filing of the sharp edges on the battery tray and I then covered all of the edges with cloth tape. You can see it as silver tape on the edges and where the metal was folded in this picture. I also sheathed the thinner wiring loom that goes under the tray in spiral wrap. Again you can see this in the picture.
