Who on here was building a home forge ( POD ? )

anyone have the ability to do some Alloy Casting or work in the industry

I'm making up re-engineered rear mounts for Iveco Transfer case & it seems there is a demand for them, It takes me upwards of 5 hours to machine one 4.7kg billet into a 1.3kg usable prototype , ( I have lots of Alloy Swarf for smelting) I'd far prefer to pay for & finish machine a casting , than to waste 5 hours for each part on a lathe & mill, so if theres anyone on here set up at home & want to earn some pocket money !

Chazza(Charlie Myres) in Narrogin WA has a very good setup.
Send him a PM if he doesn't see this.
He makes series 1 coolant castings.VERY GOOD QUALITY work.

I am interested - but I am not too sure if my current furnace is big enough.
Me and a mate are in the process of making a bigger furnace when that is built will defiantly be interested.

What type of alloy are you machining them out of? Is aluminium okay for them?

Sorry but swarf is not good for melting - get too much dross from it.

Shep is real close. I should update my profile, in Yarrawonga now. How long till yr bigger forge is online?

Ive been making them from Extruded Aluminium T6 , plain cast Aluminium will do just fine.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take my swarf to the scrappy then.

Only just saw this post, yes I have a foundry setup and could probably do the castings for you. Drop me a PM with some more detail if you like.
